My guess is they test fired a missile (or lost track of it) into the Pacific. Why they wouldn't want us to know about it when everybody with a set of eyes can tell that it's a missile is beyond me.

OR...considering where the plume came from it could be:

The Chinese and the Russians would be falling over themselves to say it was a missile launch if that were the case. It's not beyond their capability to detect that. For those of you who remember the Cold War, this was a basic capability possessed by both the Soviets and Americans.

Jesse Ventura will get to the bottom of it! He is a former Navy Seal you know.

Anyway, I'm with Kontradiction. I'd be willing to bet it's a missle we test fired, and now it's the "I dunno what it is" game.

No, not really. It the thing they say when what they really mean is "it's classified" but they don't want to confirm or deny any official knowledge.

Gee, for someone who claims to really know how the real world works, you sure don't seem to know how the real world works.

again....what does it say about our Pentagon that launches "classifed" things during daylight over the most populated city in America?

So, instead of saying they were launching a satelite, or testing a rocket, they ssay they don't know anything about it?

thus, easing the minds of the thouands who witnessed an object rocketing into orbit from the middle of the ocean.

and you boast about living in the real world?

    gotcha Stanley

It says to me that they were testing something that was best to launch at that particular time of the day.

I know you think some brass hat somewhere just flipped a coin and said "yeah, launch that sucker!" but believe it or not, such things are done at certain times usually for very specific reasons.

Of course, all this is not to mention the fact that according to your own article, it could very likely have been that mysterious newfangled device called an "airplane."

Oh cool, it must be that airplane we launch from the ocean and flys straight up...THAT plane!

    according to the 'expert'

now, if it WAS that, why wouldn't the Pentagon say it was a plane? Its amazingly strange.

If they planned on launching it, and it was a classified project, why didn't they have a story ready for the obvious questions? Either way I slice it, its like we have the B-team runing game here.

This reminds me a bit of the "Norway Spiral" and how quick the Russian Gov't was to announce that what people were witnessing was a missile test.

You assume that clearances are uniform and that everything runs as smoothly as the Hollywood movies portray it. You've been lied to. It's not at all smooth. Be it the DoD, Federal agencies, or NoVa contractors, sometimes one hand has no idea what the other is doing.

A camera in CA picks up a strange smoke trail. Everyone looks at the Pentagon, and the PA office is standing there, wondering what's up, because not every classified project gets proliferated across the Pentagon for obvious reasons. Even if it's just a plane, the PA guy isn't going to deny or confirm anything without finding out first, just in case he's wrong and looks even worse for not knowing what the hell is going on. :confused2:

So, getting a "derrrrr" from the Pentagon like this isn't a surprise. At least not to me. Eh...
