    Semi-off topic.

These congressmand an senators should be trying to pass legistlation based on the good of the country and not firstly worried about their political career.

First, politics is not a career, it should not be something someone does for their lifetime.

I'm not saying that I want government run healthcare, but these legislators should not be thinking of their careers first. Even if they side with the people, there is a good chance they won't last long anyways, so they should vote based on their principles, and beliefs and what their consituents want, not what will help their career the most.

Funny thing is, the best thing for their career, is to simply listen to their constituents... The best way to make a career out of politics is to represent your people, and not follow party lines.

It's actually great how this healthcare vote is turning out. In the house, it's a majority thing. Congressman are appointed my population, and the vast majority of urban areas want healthcare, while the sparcely populated rural area do not. This is why healthcare will pass in the house.

However in the senate, it's not based on population, and this is why the senate is having such a hard time passing it. Most states rural areas will not be happy if their senators pass it, and therefore they will try and vote them out. Only in states where the urban voters completely overrule the rural is where the senators have no problem voting for it. Democratic Senators from states with small urban areas will probably lose their next election if they vote for government healthcare.

In my opinion, the process of this legislation is a perfect example of the the founding fathers checks and balances and protecting states rights by not simply allowing the population centers to dictate to the other states what they should do.

1- Politics is a career. People get pay for being politicians. They also receive better benefits and 'perks' too.

2- If they are doing 'good' for a country by putting this country in debt, they need to be FIRED.

Its not that confusing. The same way you've repeatedly lied about being a moderate to garner credibility is what your leadership is doing when they claim they want reform yet won't budge an inch on any aspect of any of the bills ever. If they admitted the truth, which is that they're just fine with how things are, then they'd lose public support and wouldn't get what they want, which is no change whatsoever.

Middle ground is still middle ground, even if your side won't willingly move towards it.

Well, it confuses the hell out of me, so perhaps you can explain it to us then? How can a bill be bipartisan without bipartisan votes?
Well, right now the public middle ground on ObamaCare is "absolutely, positively no way whatsoever!" So it seems the Republicans are the ones firmly ensconced in the middle. Feel free to join the rest of us any day now.

So you think politicians should vote in ways that protect their careers? I find that unbelievable. Politicians should vote for what they believe, not to further their own self interest.

A scaled down bill with measures for work on tort reform and solutions for the defensive medicine problems will work well for now. If it were up to me I would just say a government option with tort and defensive medicine solutions for now would be a great start.

The people who are against it are people who fall for your BS. When you ask average people if they support a public option they say yes. The problem right now is guys like you poisoning public discourse because you're terrified of change.

Middle ground is STILL middle ground even if your side clings to thoughts like:

Your side lost the election. That means you don't get to dictate anything. The Democrats have attempted to include you but all they've gotten in response is:

Just how long do you expect the other side to wait for you to compromise?

Spin all you want, but I think the last poll I saw showed something like 70% of Americans opposing ObamaCare. The Republican own the middle ground on this issue, as much as you want to stick your head in the ground and pretend otherwise.

BTW, I notice you completely ignored my question. No surprise.

Glad to hear you say this. Now you have absolutely no one to blame but yourselves for this entire debacle.

You couldn't say that aloud with a straight face I'd bet. Your side refuses to negotiate, won't compromise an inch repeatedly uses terms like

and all you want to do is focus on making sure the blame doesn't land at your feet as this problem grows worse and worse.

Quiggy, if your party wasn't as good at dodging blame for its colossal screwups as it is, it wouldn't exist at all.

Tort reform gets thrown around as a panacea for all things medical.. check out how poorly it is working in Texas.. they passed a bill so far the only folks benefitting are the ins. companies and doctors, the savings has not yet "trickled down" to the payer...

I agree with tort reform, but it is a states's right issue.. imagine the conundrum of the right mediots if this were suggested.. a huge cluster f... would ensue about how Pelosi/Obama want to take away state's rights.. it should be suggested in the bill, but tort reform should not be regulated from DC..
