FRONTLINE: inside the meltdown | PBS

Excellent, non-partisan stuff from PBS ... as always...

gives an idea how serious these meetings were... but still leaves you wondering how collectively stupid these banking CEOs apparently could possible have been.

Saw it last week....Its really good, it is required viewing.

    Krugman's comments on Paulson.....

“He doesn’t strike me as the most reflective guy, but he must have been sitting there—everybody was sitting there—thinking, ‘My god, we may be presiding over the second Great Depression.’”

    indeed...

it's interesting that Paulson, being the former main man with Goldman Sachs, was staring across the table at his main rivals, telling them how it was gonna be...

i'll bet none of them said the word "oil" in that fateful meeting...

Yeah, PBS. Never met a communist they didn't like.

    You're really bottom-feeding now, PressCoverage.

A lot of very smart people at PBS, but you know Joseph Mengele and Josef Stalin were considered "genius" minds, too, by many. Walter Durante, famous journalist for the New York Times, said "Papa Joe" was the best thing to ever happen to the eastern world.

So, when will Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Jimmy Cahter, and Bill Clinton be featured on PBS for THEIR roles in the melt-down???? I'm not holding my breath.

Until these have been considered by you and Congress, and given their rightful consideration, there will be NO attempt to listen to any more spin from your corner. You can go "all in" on that.

    Bottom-feeding, eh?

Hey Patters... how is it that you can rifle off reprimands to those who hold this clown accountable for his antagonations, yet he remains free and clear to be his obnoxious self time after time after time after time?

There was nothing partisan or personal in this thread until the resident forum cancer showed up.

Yeah, bottom feeding for sure. I knew what they -- with their Frontline co-conspirators hacking the way -- would say even before I watched this same-same old clip. PBS will ALWAYS find a way to blame all suffering in the world on Republicans, the free markets, and anyone who wants to take a chance to try something daring life. PBS will apologize for every one and anyone who wants to destroy the pioneering spirit of America: whether it is the detainees at Gitmo, some of whom are now becoming commanders for the Taliban and al qaeda again, or now the latest attack on Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the only guy with a pair to stand up to criminals and illegal aliens. All the usual suspects are out crying about "human rights" of the animals at Gitmo and the illegals crossing the border, but PBS talks about the meltdown as if Geo Bush invented it.

So predictable you know what they are going to say before they say it.

    Talk about cancer.....

where did PBS ever once say Boy King invented the bank failures? what evidence is there that released detainees EVER became commanders for the Taliban? what do any of them have to do with illegal aliens?

    it's official.... you're insane...

As I said, PBS will go after ANYONE who dares to do things others are afraid or too fat and happy to try doing. PBS ALWAYS goes after the entrepreneurs, the risk takers, those who try to make things better for all, and PBS ALWAYS backs the well-heeled status quo lovers. Every single time.

Fraud will tell you Ignorance IS Bliss. Its easier to stick your head in the sand. or put your fingers in your ears while going na,na,na,na,na,na.... Stupid is safe. Fraud has turned the state of stupitity into an art form. You just keep chanting the same mantra, or ofuscating. Then bring up your being attacted, insulted. So you have to defend yourself by sayin "I was attacked first" and re-direct the debat away from his losing argument.

to Fogbluster, it would appear guys like Bernie Madoff are merely "risk takers" who "tried to make things better for everyone."

these big bank CEOs, yeah... they all have America's best interests at heart... PBS Frontline is just on a witchunt...

Darryl was correct: Fog blows a gasket any time PBS: FL is mentioned because it exposed the false prophet mere mortal he worships...

As I have said repeatedly on this list, Bernie Madoff and all others who gamed the system and outright stole from others (as in Madoff's case) should forfeit ALL the ill-gotten wealth; even their complicit family members should give up the gains they got while the theft was being perpetrated.

But this was NOT the focus of this typical PBS/Frontline hit piece. Their target, as always, is Republicans, conservatives, and those who have made America what it is. The risk-takers and entrepreneurs who built America are being once again trashed by a bunch of tax-payer-funded self-appointed judges, juries, prosecutors, and executioners. Anybody who studies what these phonies have ever produced always comes to the same conclusion.

Hypocrites to the max: PBS and Frontline.

You didn't even watch it, did you self-absorbed RW pontificator?

Just admit it... Put down your incessant urge to bear false witness for just a moment and own up...

Because you couldn't possibly come to that conclusion if you actually saw the program.

No, I did watch it. My mind went into glassy-eye mode as soon as they brought up images of Bush standing along side Paulson.

Sure, it's good Paulson told Bear that they were going to take the hit, but that's not the message behind this typical left-wing hit-piece by PBS/Frontline. They are after Bush, Republicans, and the entire free-enterprise way of life. PBS/Frontline are unabashed socialists. Have always been, from Bill Moyers on down.

The fact that the tax-payers of America continue to pay -- most unknowingly -- for this latrine deposit known as PBS is an outrage. One of many things to be corrected in the near future.

    Watch this space!

Anywhoo.... Credibility check: youtube or PBS ??..... youtube or PBS ?..?.?........ hm-m-m........ youtube or PBS......????

OK, I've decided I'll go with youtube. Every time, and twice on Sunday. PBS is the biggest con game ever invented. From the seductively "authoritative" voice over meistro, to the gamed trick photography to the all-out misuse of the public trust -- not to mention abusing billions upon billions of tax-payers' dollars -- PBS is the biggest snake oil salesman to ever hit the airwaves in America. They put Pravda, Tass, Izvestia all to shame.

O.k., I finished watching it and while it was well put together and offered some really nice insight and behind the scenes stuff, I couldn't help but feel like it was incomplete. I also thought it was overly dramatic, particularly for a PBS program.

I felt it was incomplete because it didn't give any differing opinion. This was the steps Berneke and Paulson took to combat the banking meltdown and their reasoning for it. While they eluded to some differing opinion, especially by some of the republican congress, they only paid it lip service at best. How can you not show someone like Ron Paul who I am sure would have been available for comment? I didn't like that at all.

The other part I didn't like was the use of overly dramatic effect. From the heavy background music to giving too much air time to peoples thoughts and feelings rather then more fact. They were trying to push the gravity of the situation by the thoughts and feelings of these witnesses as if the viewers would not have been able to feel the gravity through the facts alone.

Overall, it did feel like it was trying to push an adgenda and paint the situation in a certain light. There wasn't enough alterative view. It was ok.
