WASHINGTON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said on Friday recapitalizing banks is the most effective use of a $700 billion financial bailout war chest, but acknowledged the U.S. reputation is tarnished as a result of the financial crisis that has spread around the world.

"We have in many ways humiliated ourselves as a nation with some of the problems that have taken place here," Paulson said in an interview with CNBC television.

Hold on hold on hold on.

He said that AFTER seven years of Bush????

As in, okay that other stuff there wasn't so good, but this is really bad?

That should tell ya something right there. Like, here were vast swaths of the world preferring farking Bin Laden to Bush in favorability polls... here we were, with all our allies alienated... here we were with a moronic president whose answers bear little semblance to reality, who made up reasons to invade Iraq wholecloth, who personally faced down...who? the Kyoto accord signatories?

Here we were turning our global and domestic policy to runny ca-ca, but that was okay.

But Now, NOW Hank says in many ways we've humiliated ourselves.

No SH** sherlock. And then we sent Bush out in front of the world to tell them to have some sort of religious faith in laissez faire capitalism.

He STILL doesn't get it. And Hank wants us all to wail and gnash our teeth and contemplate our greed and our sloth as individual Americans, meanwhile pumping hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars into the very institutions that profited from these tendencies for many years, transferring wealth into their own pockets and leaving many normal Americans, whether homeowners or shareholders, with debt. Debt and a jetski.

    I am nauseous yet again.

Thanksgiving cards already sent to Chris Dodd, Barney "I-got-suckered" (sic) Frank, Jimmy Cahta, and Billy Two-Shoes Clintonista: You guys really set us up, starting in '78, then on through '93-2007. Hope you're proud of what you did.

Typical passing of the buck by the traitors in the Bush Administration.

Sorry guys...you're all going to have to settle for awards and praise from the NRA and the Heritage Foundation. There will be no fifth head on Rushmore, no U.S.S. GW Bush, no Cheney international Airport, no Wolfowits elementary School...You have all sealed your fates. Your names will all end up on the ash-heap of history along with Richard Nixon and Calvin Coolidge. Don't come looking for someone to wipe your arse at the nursing home, either. We've all had enough of your sh!t.

How is Obama going to convince the rest of the world that the US government isn't a pile of contradictary, self-serving, lying arseholes? It's going to take years to undo the mess Bush and his End-Times followers have done. I think we're about to see a scorched earth takeover of Washington by the Dems. The stench of the last regime can only be removed by fire and bulldozers, IMO. I don't care who does it, as long as the lunatic fringe of the right-wing, faith-based, lapel pin-wearing establishment gets swept up along with it.

The People have been blindly accepting on FAITH (there's that troublesome word, again) the lie and myth of "Free Market Capitalism", when the pigs at the trough have demonstrated that they're nothing but knocked-up, drunken trailer trash with a Mercedes, three kids in Academy, and a time share in Hawaii. Other countries who have been witnessing this debacle have no other logical alternative than to take a hard left turn towards increased socialism and government-controlled markets if their model for free markets has been the United States system. No one's going to be able to buy into that myth again. It's out there for all to see.

Ah, yes, bad Bush, bad capitalism, bad free markets. Good communism, good socialism, good Kerry, good Clinton.

"Drugs, drugs, get your drugs here!!!"

    Something for the socialist set:

    Arise, wretched of the earth
    Arise, convicts of hunger
    Reason thunders in its volcano
This is the eruption of the end
Of the past let us wipe the slate clean
    Masses, slaves, arise, arise
The world is about to change its foundation
We are nothing, let us be all

If you honestly beleive that this mess lies exclusively on Bush (who certainly owns much of it), you are far dumber that even I gave you credit for.

The fukcing that the our goverment gave us in the last little while was decades in the making and was the most bi-partison effort that has come out of Washington in a long time.

You are just not bright if you can't see that.

Man...do I agree with that! I am sick of the stink that eminates from Washington that results from the love affair our federal gov't has had with corporate America.

I never knew until this week that the "Fed" was a private corporation. I always thought it was part of our government. So "we the people" GAVE $700 billion to a private corp. to share with other private corp's.

Gee, I wonder who owns the Fed?

That's because its not a private corporation.

Can Ted Turner be Impeached? Of course not.
Was Bill Gates nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate? Nope.
Is Warren Buffet term limited? Not even a little bit.

The answer to all of those questions with respect to a member of the fed is a big, fat yes. Every single member currently serving was appointed by Bush and confirmed by the Senate and they all have to leave when their 14 year term runs out.

Listen, just because Bernanke recently bought an island fortress defended by nuclear robots doesn't mean he's not a humble public servant like Condi.

The fact that he controls the printing of the nation's money is irrelevant.

    I can't tell if you're joking or not:confused:

I do know that the Board of Governors has less autonomy than the Supreme Court. SC nominees being appointed for life and all, yet the SC is a part of the government last I checked.

Sure the Fed is given wide latitude and therefore must be thought of as semi-autonomous; but that's to minimize political influence. Not because the Illuminati or something has side-stepped the Constitution.
