Paul Ryan defends tax breaks for the rich and gets booed at town hall|Raw Replay

First thing's first, you KNOW the crowd was conservative/republican only. Secondly, I think we are finally seeing some people who believed in the front of what the TEA Party was telling you they wanted to do, and getting frustrated that the sacrafice, isn't shared.

TEA Partiers are waking up to the simple fact that they are being overlooked and stepped on by the very same people who funded the so called 'grass-roots' movement. The return on their emotional investment is bearing its fruit, and the fruit's name is REDISTRIBUTION TO THE ELITE.

The Ryan Budget could be the smelling salt these TEA party peeps need.

When the Tea Party finally realizes that they have been pawns for the corporatists, they may become relevant.

This whole thing has been a grand diversion that takes away from the real issue, the American Plutocracy who have become more and more powerful.

Sooner someone will rise above the hysteria, cheerleading, Take Back America Tours and realize what the actual issues are with this country.

Getting booed may be a sign the man is taking a stand. Something most politicos won't do.

I happen to think this is exactly what we need. My only criticism is that he doesn't touch the military spending.

I'm afraid you guys are using this non-story--there's always hecklers for any public figure--to release your platitudes.

The real story is that Ryan is attracting large crowds and his message is obviously touching a chord with those who don't send spittle up to the rafters.

Overflow crowds for Paul Ryan town halls - Jennifer Haberkorn - POLITICO.com

BTW, Ryan had the CBO run the numbers of our projected budgets and deficits into the future. The computers crashed for the year 2037, which isn't that far away, showing that current trends are clearly unsustainable.

The modern welfare state is kaput. Paradoxically, it's premised, as Mark Steyn has written, on a above-replacement birth rate. Yet, the mathematical average college educated white woman in the US has only 1.7 babies in her lifetime, which is far below the 2.1 bare maintenance level.

Yes, he is....and those non-spittlers were largely opposed the Ryan plan, holding signs such as “RyanCare = Dying Bare,” “Leave Medicare Alone” or simply, “Save Medicare!”

which, like it or not, has to tell you something.

Read more: Overflow crowds for Paul Ryan town halls - Jennifer Haberkorn - POLITICO.com

Explain, please. Do only the babies born to the "average college educated white woman in the US" count towards a replacement birth rate?

Is there some reason you are not counting the babies born to white non-college educated women or to black women or to hispanic women?

Read Bowles-Simpson "The Moment of Truth" report.

    Discuss.

I'm home on leave today, for those many patsfanners whose hobby is tracking my own personal posting habits. I may weigh back in.

Here's a hint, for State: We need to contain the growth of deficits and expand revenue, and we need to preserve progressivity in our tax rates.

Ryan's plan is idiotic, and his crowds see right through him. Your boys need to get a grip on where we are and stop with the war on the disadvantaged and the elderly.

No, a 85-year old on 24/7 oxygen is not a good candidate for affordable private insurance.... even if you give him a coupon.

Ryan's not budgeting, he's cost-shifting to the elderly and the poor, and telling them "you shouldn't get sicker than the coupon says."

More Koch Brothers checks must have bounced. Why aren't all these people doing what they are paid to do (I am speaking of the Town Hall crowd)?

Have no worries, the Koch bros will be spending TONS to misinform people again.

They seem to be savvy...to a point, and what is unfolding is the result of a classic overplay by these brothers, and this mentality.

Slashing medicare is a classic overplay, Slashing workers rights is a classic overplay. Union workers, and seniors tend to ... you know .... vote.

Its refreshing to see an informed public, ask informed questions. Its funny to see a politician, armed with debunked talking points get debunked.

I "missed" them because they are not in the top ten list, which is what I posted.

Your list was selective, comparing individuals to groups, over 10 years. We really should start keeping track of $$$ starting post Citizens United. But in reality, since that decision states that donations can be both UNLIMITED, and anonymous...we''l never be able to fully keep track of this.

Needless to say, the right wing front groups are already hard at work. Rachel Maddow did a great piece on it last night. I know it might be tough to watch if you love the conservatives, but it shows the difference between grass roots as astroturf.

    Rachel Maddow Show

HOuse Majority PAC, DCCC et all:

this happened in Wisconsin. Why is this a story?

An extreme leftist state boos someone who is not an extreme leftist.

Seriously, this is nothing. These people were leftists, not tea partiers.

    Keep telling yourself that.

70% of Tea Partiers, 73% of Republicans and 75% of Independents polled opposed cutting Medicare and Medicaid.

    This is a story because:

Paul Ryan and the signatures to this budget proposal have commited political suicide. Defunding Medicare is about as nuclear a subject as you can touch. Medicare is quite possibly the most popular government program that our nation has ever seen.

The thinig that makes Paul Ryan's budget so astonishing, isnt its contents, or lack of thought, or even lack of facts...Its the fat that Mr. Ryan, in his beltway conservative bubble clearly shows his lack of historical knowledge. ASk George W Bush how popular he was when he presented medicare as a voucher system....

GOP going back to failed 2003 playbook on Medicare/Medicaid cuts (elimination) « The Progressive Pulse

The fact that Ryan's own state is currently in crisis for attacks on labor add to the story. You have a two pronged attack, federal and state, against two of the most active political communities. Unions and Seniors.

Last time I checked, the people who republicans are stating in legistlation that they want to destroy, tend to hit the voting booths pretty hard.

Its funny you ask "Why is this a story?"

It was front page news when Americans for prosperity was touring the nation in a million dollar bus in its GRASS ROOTS camapign (funded by Koch industries) screaming about death panels, and telling people not to tread on them, wearing tea bags on their faces etc...etc...etc...

but when flat faced lies, using made up facts and presented to an audience that is informed, and they boo the lies....

YOU ask "Why is this news?"

well.... because this kind of refreshing patriotism IS news. They are not being funded by trust fund berothers who were handed a company that produces billions, these people have seen the facts, crunched the numbers, heard the votes, and smell a frickin RAT.

    "Why is this news?".... classic
