He can rush the kick returner

Re: Pats worked out Koutouvides

Never heard of him! And I am sure I would remember that name!

The Harvard guy?

The Pats caught what disease?

Best Greek involved in Football since Jimmy the Greek.

Re: Pats worked out Koutouvides

He's actually from New England (New Britain CT). A career backup that would be primarily, if not exclusively a special teams player. Maybe BB is hoping to find the next Larry Izzo.

Here's a link with info on him for the Tampa Bay fan site/message board:

PR Predicts: LB Niko Koutouvides - Pewter Report

2010 SEASON
Last season Koutouvides was fourth on the team in special teams tackles with 14. He did not record a tackle on defense. He played in 14 games with zero starts.

CAREER UP TO THIS POINT
Koutouvides has been a backup for his entire career. He played four seasons in Seattle, one with Denver and the past two with Tampa Bay. Throughout his career, Koutouvides has had to fight to make the roster each preseason. He has stayed in the league due to his quality play on special teams. In 2009 Koutouvides led the Bucs in special teams tackles with 18.

He's a fearless hitter, was always light for LB, but threw his body around the field with reckless abandon in college.

He WAS actually drafted by Seattle.

Re: Pats worked out Koutouvides

Sounds like competition for Tracy White.

Re: Pats sign Niko Koutouvides

Competition for the ST/LB spot with Tracy White..? Cant imagine he is anything more than that..

Re: Pats sign Niko Koutouvides

The guy is an excellent special teams player. Belichick may not have been too pleased by some of the play by other backups on ST Thursday. Similar to current players like White and Slater or former players like Izzo, it is unlikely he would ever get on the field on a 1st, 2nd or 3rd down in any game other than in preseason.

Re: Pats sign Niko Koutouvides

Only in New England is competition brought in for a special teamer that was traded for a year earlier.

Re: Pats sign Niko Koutouvides

There is a tradition under Belichick of veteran special teamers making the squad over young developing back-up's. The Patriots have never won a Super Bowl without Je'Rod Cherry, right?

I'd be surprised to see Koutovides make the team, given the depth, but he could certainly chase Tracy White for a spot as the ST LB'er, in the Eric Alexander/Larry Izzo role.

Re: Didn't see this posted yet: Koutouvides signed

He practiced for the first time on Sunday and was wearing 46.

Re: Didn't see this posted yet: Koutouvides signed

And it was in the Sunday practice report thread.
