Trying to figure out why they had the Tight Ends coach work him out.

And its very odd that they would allow that to the press.

Hope this isn't a smokescreen, I'm really hoping they take him at #34

I'll be honest, this seems like a sure sign we won't take him.

Or maybe that's what they want us to think.

    Or.....

Didn't I read somewhere where we Drafted some players we never worked out? You wonder if BB has his list all ready made up of who to take at what position depending on who's available.
Maybe its a smoke screen by him.

I don't think it was the team that revealed that information. A lot of the time, it's the players themselves or their agents that give out that info because it might mean that someone will draft him higher and the player will get more money.

I hope he's available at #34, and i hope Pats to get itchy trigger finger and get him at #23. I hope Barwin is another player to contribute right off the bat like Mr. Mayo !! Great news of the day!

Karen Guregian posted the note, though you see the entire item quoted above.

As to smokescreen talk... In past seasons we've attempted to get a handle on what the Pats might do as far as putting out false leads with no real luck. The bottom line with Patriot workouts and visits is they are just allowing the coaches an opportunity to get answers to unanswered questions.

Waldron working out Barwin is a good sign from my perspective - NE is evaluating him as a TE, which is not a great need for the team after the Baker signing - my presumption is they are trying to determine how he might help the team as a TE so they can set his final draft value. :woohoo:

Any chance if we get Barwin that he can act as 3rd tight end behind Watson and Baker and save us a roster spot with Dave Thomas?

I could see a scenario where the Patriots took Clay Matthews at #23 and Connor Barwin at #34. You get an ILB and an OLB, and both have a pretty strong chance at being there at those picks. It's not impossible that the most popular binkies might both end up Patriots.

If we got Barwin, I'd suspect he'd be taking about half the snaps at OLB (sharing with Woods or Crable - I have high hopes for Crable). If that's the case, I really don't think he'd be playing any TE except near the goal-line. Which is fine, tight end is a position I wouldn't really want to skimp on.

They carried three TEs and still used Vrabes on the goal line. I'll let them sort out the roster after Training Camp.

I think a lot of that "smokescreen" talk is overrated. Good call, Box, on checking on Barwin's overall value.

Not sure I see putting Clay III at ILB. Not exactly a run-stopper at 6-3, 240. Actually weighs 5 pounds less than Guyton.

On these pages, it seems as though many posters see a 3-4 ILB as a position rookies can just adapt to in a few months. I read names like Matthews, Barwin or Ayers and have them getting put in the middle. Didn't it take Bruschi about five years before he was taking reps there?

Why wasn't Matt Patricia there? Are the Pats convinced from the limited views they have of him standing up that he can play OLB?

He took a few reps getting there alright.

    #12 Jersey

Clearly someone in the Pats war room is looking at Barwin's JUNIOR tapes.

Maybe Barwin's athletism and ST ability has intrigued BB. But it also says volumes that no defensive coaches were present.
