The final game of the weekend matches two teams that spilt during the regular season, each winning on their home field. The Patriots mauled the Jets when they played in Foxboro in November. They did so with Tom Brady picking apart the inside of the Jets defense. The Jets will adjust, but I don't think they rush the passer well enough to slow Brady. He will have time to find open receivers. That will put a lot of pressure on Mark Sanchez on the other side. He is more of a game manager than a guy who can go throw-for-throw with Brady. That's why running the ball is so important for the Jets. It will keep the pressure off Sanchez, but it will also keep the ball away from Brady. The Patriots was 16th in yards per rushing play, which has to give the Jets hope they can run it. But if this is an ambush like the last game, that strategy is dead. Brady is on a roll this season, and I can't see it stopping here. New England wins big again.

Patriots 30, Jets 17
In the other games they have it 5-0 Bears over Seattle; 4-1 Falcons over Green Bay; and 3-2 Steelers over Baltimore.

In other news, Simple Jack picks the Pats too.

Florio and Rosenthal are split on each of the three other games.
Division-round game picks | ProFootballTalk
Florio’s take: Early in the week, I planned to pick the Jets. The Pats ran up the score when the two teams played in December, hoping to spark a tailspin that would wash the Jets right out of the playoffs. But the Jets have been chattering too much, and the Patriots will now be even more motivated to repeat the outcome of the Monday night massacre. Though it won’t nearly be so lopsided this time around, these two teams have different agendas. The Jets are determined to beat the Pats, and the Pats are determined to beat the NFC representative in the Super Bowl.

Florio’s pick: Patriots 30, Jets 21.

Rosenthal’s take: Until the 45-3 whitewash, Rex Ryan’s Jets gave Tom Brady problems. Brady’s numbers in his first three games against Ryan as Jets coach: 57% completion, 6.24 yards-per-attempt, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. Don’t be shocked if the Jets defense makes life difficult on Brady for a while. My concern for New York is more about Mark Sanchez’s wild throws against a turnover-crazy Patriots defense that held opponents under 10 points four times in New England’s last five games.

Rosenthal’s pick: Patriots 27, Jets 14.

Insiders' Picks - Showtime Sports
Collinsworth and Sapp both go with the Pats to beat the Jets; Simms abstains because he is broadcasting the game.
All three take the Bears; only Simms takes the Packers; only Collinsworth goes with the Steelers.

Right now it's 5-0 for the Pats; still waiting for two others to make their picks.

Jets vs. Patriots: Familiar Foes Fight for Trip to AFC Championship -- NFL FanHouse
New England's Keys to Victory

Last week, the Jets actually forced the Colts to rush the ball more than they passed it. This despite the fact that Indianapolis had averaged 42.4 pass attempts and 24.6 rush attempts per game this season. Manning constantly checked to the run on third down, perhaps fearful that Revis' presence severely limited his options in the passing game. The Patriots may have more weapons than the Colts, but New England's passing attack flows through two rookie tight ends and two slot-type receivers. The Jets defense can be burned -- Pierre Garcon showed that -- but the Patriots aren't exactly ripe with big-play potential. Will success come from sustained drives and short passes or from finding the big play against the Jets?

On defense, the Patriots are going to have to take advantage of mistakes. Odds are Sanchez will force some passes into areas he shouldn't, and it'll be on the Patriots to pick him off as they did in Week 13. McCourty has turned into a Pro Bowl-caliber player in a hurry, finally giving the Patriots a competent replacement for Asante Samuel. McCourty's seven interceptions actually tied Samuel and Troy Polamalu for second in the NFL behind Ed Reed. Unlike Samuel, he can make the sure tackle if he doesn't get the pick -- his 82 total tackles easily dwarfed the totals of those other three defensive backs. Sanchez will definitely throw the ball his way, and if McCourty can come up with a big play or two, the Jets' fate could be sealed.

Prediction

The Patriots have been on a roll since dropping that Week 2 game to the Jets, winning 13 of their last 14 games and playing exactly one competitive game in their last six victories. That run included three playoff teams: the Packers, Bears and these Jets.

The Jets certainly have gained momentum by dispatching of the team that eliminated them in last season's playoffs, but will momentum and familiarity be enough to counteract the Patriots? Expect the Jets to rise to the occasion, but the Patriots are just too good to beat at home. Patriots 31, Jets 24.

I liked it better when no one picked us

What happen to the days of Tom Jackson and Chris Carter picking against the Pats?

Re: No Media Predictions Thread this week?

I haven't scoured the net for predictions but the only person I've seen on ESPN or any other national site who is picking the Jets is Herm Edwards.

Herm Edwards is an idiot.

This is very good.
