Pats trying CB Will Allen at safety in OTAs

"Unique, opponent-specific gameplans" have been around for a while now with the Pats. That's nothing new. And this is relevant even against the Jets. Sure, you need to stop the run - though the Jets weren't very effective at running the ball in 2011. But confusing Mark Sanchez is always a good way to get the offense to fall apart - remember the 3 Leigh Bodden INTs in 2009?

I didn't see the 2009 game so it appears we played the entire game in nickel/dime?

They have been around...how much have they been used?

Tough to attain when you are bringing bodies in from the street.

The point being is personnel required to hinder New Orleans (Brees QBing) and Green Bay isn't the same vs Tennessee or Miami.

The critical point that should be gained is how you counter elite offenses.

Green Bay is currently the odds on favorite in the NFC. Outside of lucking out that they suck; what's the practical counter to Rogers?

is that needed against Blaine Gabbert and MJD?

Seems to be quite a bit of buzz around the 'Big Nickel' package - the Jets have certainly loaded up with safeties this year (2 FA and I think 2 more in the draft).

With teams trying to copycat the Hernkowski TE magic, it is apparently the current chic to get 3 safeties on the field along with 2 CB's.

The Jets safety situation was awful last season, and their best safety (Leonard) isn't healthy enough to play football right now. Like the Patriots, the Jets were desperate to fix the position. Also, like the Patriots, they'll probably have to focus on the position again in 2013.

They got a quick fix with La'Ron Landry, but he's a huge liability in coverage and is oft-injured. Leonard is a FA who is too hurt to play anymore. They really have nothing in the backfield outside of Revis. We need safety help as well, but IMO a healthy Chung is better then anyone the Jets currently have.

The Jets defense may be the most over-hyped and over-blown defense in the entire league. Revis covers up a lot of their problems, but they have no safeties and absolutely ZERO pass rush. People talked about our pass rush being bad, but the Jets is even worse.

True - The Jets fanbase don't think much of Leonard but he was greatly, and obviously, missed when he was injured, not the most talented but definitely a defensive QB.

They've been able to hide the definciency at safety pretty well i'd say - certainly alot better than the Patriots.

Their ability to somewhat mask the problem at safety is obviously benefited by Revis being a true shutdown CB, and Cromartie being a viable enough stopgap on the other side.

Those players, particularly Revis, were able to allow the NYJ secondary to appear a lot better than they were, as you stated. Once you got past the CB's though, it was smooth sailing as far as passing the ball, but you're right their talent at CB did a better job at masking the problem at safety.

Hopefully we can see a Revis holdout party part 2 this year, as he had already planted the seeds 2 yrs ago when he signed his deal. He is making peanuts these next 2 yrs for what he is worth, but he also is neglecting the fact that he was overpaid in the first 2 seasons, which evens the deal out.

Nevertheless, I believe that he will hold out of TC and cause another fuss, since he seems to pretty much be an ********* of drastic proportions.
