Re: Pats Take OT COREY HILLARD With Pick 209
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a top athlete with the power and agility to play every line position. Plays hard and with aggression. Shows quick footwork with good body control and balance. Shows good upper-body strength, and maintains good leverage. Is flexible, coordinated and nimble.
Weaknesses: Has trouble sustaining blocks. Tends to splay feet and lose balance. Sometimes overreacts and oversets. Is inconsistent. False steps, wide base and leading with head all make him less effective. Has repeatedly made the same mistakes, showing he doesn't listen well to coaching. Sometimes gets overaggressive and whiffs on defensive linemen. Gets out of position by overstepping and moving away from his assignment. Struggles to adjust and make blocks when coming off initial assignment.
Bottom line: Hilliard has the ideal toughness, competitiveness and athleticism, but his production just wasn't there in college. He is sure to test well enough in pre-draft workout to get late-round consideration, but Hilliard's game needs plenty of work to become more than an NFL reserve.
