I don't think you were too hasty, and I hope you don't think I was being a smart ass in my response to you, because that certainly was not my intent. I think you were right on, at least in terms of questioning how 0.5 translates into a pass rush. The guy has gone 4.5,3.5,3.5,0.5 in the past 4 seasons. I think it's fair to wonder about that drop off, especially since he was also blanked as far as passes defensed, and I think it's fair to question how much pass rush he'll give the team when he's facing guard/tackle combos instead of guard/center combos.

I'm not sold on this move, by any means. I'll reserve judgment until he's had time to get up to speed on two-gap techniques, but he's never exactly lit the world on fire in the 4-3, so I'm not expecting all that much from the guy.
When was the last time you were sold on a move the Patriots made Deus? :p

It depends on what you mean by "move" and by "sold", really. I'm happy, to one degree or another, with:

Neal re-signing
Faulk re-signing
retention of Wilfork
TBC re-signing
Bodden re-signing
Patten signing
Baker cut

Just to point to some recent moves. It's not my fault that the team's front office sucked last year and made a lot of crappy moves. It's nice to see that Jonathan Kraft has owned up to it, at least a little.

Move from outside of the Patriots organization.

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

Jarvis Green is 6'3" 285 lbs - Lewis is 6'2" 301lbs.

You can see why they used Green as a 3rd down pass rusher. Lewis is not a specialist pass rusher, and he's not a 3-4 DE. 6'2" guys do not play 3-4 DE.

But 6'3" guys do?

Move from outside of the Patriots organization.

1.) I was OK, but not thrilled, with the Bodden signing, as I didn't know whether the Patriots would be getting Browns Bodden or Lions Bodden. I'm OK, but not thrilled, with his play, so that's been just about right, IMO.

2.) I loved the Galloway signing. That one crapped the bed. I'd love to get the real story on it, too.

3.) I loved the Fred Taylor signing. That one was looking good until he went on the shelf.

4.) I was alright with the Springs signing, although I'd never been a big fan of his.

Those were 4 somewhat high profile moves from last year about which I expressed one level of approval or another. TBC didn't bother me either, although it was of lower profile.

I'm just messing with ya Deus. Of late, most of your dislike for the FO's moves to bring in players outside of the Patriots organization has been well founded.

No offense taken. I like facts and can deal with unknowns.

So that one inch of height is the difference between being a probowl DE and being unable to play the position?

I think Bill will see whether or not he is useful.
The rest of it is just chumps making their best guess and trying to be smart.

Good Luck with that.

Given the current contents of your sig:

Stop drafting BUMS like "I never play cuz I suck" Wheatley,"see the back of my Jersey as I get burned...AGAIN" Wilhiite, and "maybe my knee will let me play by my 4th year" Tate.
Please don't bring Meion the loser back, he held the team over the barrel and didn't honor his contract, which in turn cost the Pats a SB win, and gave it to Frankenhead instead.

Your post here is extremely ironic.

I will say this: Lewis stays on the field, and I always love these non-stop motor types. He was like that in college. He is like that in the pros.

Bill makes mistakes, we can see them AFTER the fact.
What's so difficult?

You mean besides your post making no sense in the context of your preceding post? Bill makes mistakes. 'We' often see them BEFORE the fact, or at essentially the time of occurence.

My post makes perfect sense.
I trust in Bill to decide whether he was worth extending an olive branch to, but I certainly don't feel he is infallible.
Fact is it doesn't matter what the "Smaht Guys" here feel, Bill is going to decide whether he is worth looking at, everyone here is Just A Guy (get it).

Sorry if you are somehow offended, I trust that Bill will decide whether he is worth LOOKING at for basically no money, everything else here.........bah

Whatever D, not taking the bait but Good Luck with that, have fun!

1.) I wasn't offended. I found the irony amusing.

2.) I wasn't casting bait. The general thrust of your response was expected and not looked upon by me as anything likely to be all that interesting.

3.) Your initial claim is different from your follow ups:

think Bill will see whether or not he is useful.
The rest of it is just chumps making their best guess and trying to be smart.

What Bill is doing is the same as what the "chumps" are doing, in that he's taking the available information, making his best guess and "trying to be smart". The differences are that BB gets paid to do it and that he generally has more information on the subject available to him.

The book hasn't been finished on Wheatley, Wilhite or Tate, yet you're making your pronouncement. As I said, extremely ironic.

My OPINION is they are chumps, My OPINION is Bill MISSED.
SO WHAT, it's MY OPINION, that is ALL it is, just like all the rest on here.
Any sigs/ideas on here are the same, their OPINIONS, and that includes yours AND MINE man.
Keep up the good work though, your doing a hell of a job.

It's interesting to see you call yourself a chump.

Re: Pats sign Damione Lewis?

He's a 4-3 DT. Not a 3-4 NT, or a 3-4 DE.

i'd bet that he could be our starting rde in our base 34 next year..quick, decent height

It's interesting to see you call yourself a chump.

I didn't call you one because I don't want Ian private messaging me telling me that I was being mean again, otherwise I may have said something a wee bit different.

You DEFINITELY are MY HERO though, don't you worry, everyone here thinks your the best.
Don't pay attention to the folks that think your just like Summers Eve, I don't think that way at all, I think your the greatest!
Thanks for your instruction man, I feel refreshed already!
You should do an infomercial in greatness, it would sell like hotcakes on the Alaska plain in December.

Thanks Again, Your the best!!

Hugs!
