Patriots re-signed restricted free agents Gene Mruczkowski, an offensive lineman, and Rashad Baker, a defensive back.

Baker, who had two tackles last year, is special teams help. Mruczkowski often finds himself on the street during the season but the Pats usually bring him back. Both will compete to make the team in training camp

Patriots re-signed exclusive rights free agents Mike Wright, a defensive lineman, and Corey Mays, a linebacker.

The promising Wright filled in for Vince Wilfork and held up in 2006. Mays will look to help ease the loss of Don Davis on special teams.

So, who are the RFA's left that we haven't signed?

Did they sign Wright long term?

Almost certainly not - they have full control of him until he becomes an RFA next year, of course provided he accrues a season this year.

I'd pull the trigger on that deal now, for reasonable money.

I suppose we could tender him high, I'm not too conversant with the RFA thing.

Obviously we have to lock him up at money where we'd get a 1st or second since we get nothing based on his FA status.

Please tell me if I'm making no sense here, but I have no problem with offering the guy security for his hard work.

Again, he's still under their control as an ERFA for one more year. There's no need to risk money that you don't need to risk.

They'll probably sign him to a long-term deal before free agency opens next year.

Does Patrick Pass have pictures of BB or Pioli with sheep or something?

    No Jersey Selected

Re: Pats re-sign Wright, Mays (ERFAs) and Baker, Mruczkowski (RFAs)

No need to further speculate on the secret to the longevity of Mr. Pass. Unless half of the RBs in TC succumb to injury, he will not make the 53, if he is re-signed at all.

As for Mays, Baker, Mruc: they are inexpensive tackling dummies, nothing more, to be (hopefully) discarded by September.

Signing Wright long term is one option, next off-season he might also receive a second round RFA tender and have a chance to earn a starting job elsewhere the way Welker earned a big pay day - the Pats get a day one pick and Wright gets his money and a shot at more playing time. Another way for him to get some security for his hard work.

    Much too early to say with Mays, he impressed enough to stick as a UDFA, then took it a step further to come off the Practice Squad and become a core Special Teams player (9 STs' tackles in 8 games played, which compares well to team leaders Izzo and Andrews who led in STs' tackles with 14 in 16gp & 15 in 15gp respectively). It appears they are trying to develop Mays at ILB, I believe he played outside at Notre Dame;
    - his first challenge is to develop his eye for his reads and try to have himself moving in the right direction without thought.
    - plus he needs to develop his strength and his hand fighting technics for dealing with larger OL with longer arms.
