We've been thinking about Jets game coming up.

To me it certainly seems the PATs have all the talented players
needed to blow away the JETs.

If PATs can not handle the JETs blitz packages then who will be
mostly at fault? The players or the coaching?

IMO, if BB and staff does not utilize
the talent they have to neutralize or at least effectively limit the
effectiveness of JETs blitz then the coaching staff should be on the hot seat.

Does anyone affirm or reject this opinion?

No matter the opponent, if the Patriots lose, BB is the first to step up and blame the coaching staff.

But as for the hot seat, not sure what you mean by that. Usually that refers to coaches in danger of being fired. And surely you don't mean the coaching staff should start updating their resumes if they lose on the road to the Jets. Do you?

With the Jets being a divisional foe that the Patriots see twice a year and game film of all their games....The Patriot players are very familiar with their schemes and personnel....if the Pats lose, I think the blame would be on the players for not executing.

Before I saw the jets play i expected a game this Sunday....

now after seeing both teams, i expect the patriots to win by 10-20...if that does not happen, boston: we have a problem

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

I reject the idea that the Pats OL is so super-talented that only coaching can screw it up. I don't see a line made up of exclusively 1st rounders... the Pats have tended to go for cheaper players there and depended on coaching them to work as a unit. The protection is better as a whole than the sum of its parts and for that I credit the coaching staff, Dante in particular.

Was this your first weekend watching the NFL?

Teams are almost never as good as they look when they win easily, and almost never as bad as they look when they lose. This game will be a dogfight.

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

The key is not to "handle" the blitz, but to beat it. The philosophy of Buddy Ryan's 46 defense is that they will send more guys than you have blockers. That was something we did much better the 2nd time we played them. It should be a mundane task at this point.

I feel that a lot of the Patriots players look talented because of the coaching when in fact they are not that talented. Just look what TBC did for the niners.

OK "beat" is the word. What should we be seeing for PATS to
    beat the Jets blitz?

I think you see a lot of two tight end sets, Crumpler staying in to help block and Gronk running short pass patterns. I think Gronk also chips guys as he's firing off the line.

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

Last season the Colts had success by spreading their formations pretty wide, because that forced the Jets D to reveal it's identity. I think we should take a page from that concept. As scary as it sounds, I think we should put Brady in an empty set. You may recoil at the thought of leaving Brady without any protection back there, but I think that the more short options he has up front, the quicker he can get rid of the ball because he has more hot reads. I do not want to see him in max protect pro set, because that plays right into the 46. We saw Flacco have poor success in the pro set, on monday night.

The key to beating the blitz is wes welker. We saw this in the rematch game last year. Tom will have to get the ball out quick... and you know who's going to be there in the slot to catch it.

Jets have Revis on D against Moss....

Not much more. The rest of their DB's are average at best.

Pats will utilize TE's and RB's in passing game....no sense running into a stone wall......they may run a few into the line but they don't have enough speed to go wide on Jets. If Pats have any success at all in their running game, it will be a long afternoon for the Jets.

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

The X factor is going to be Gronk. You saw how often Heap was mismatched running the seam, on Monday night because he was matched up with the slot safety. The Jets like to throw everything up front, and that is their achilles heel. Gronk has the size where you can throw over the top to him just as the blitz or rush gets to you.

Cromartie is very undisciplined and his technique is poor. I hope we will exploit that.

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

I agree in part. I will be a dogfight initially. But I don't think the Jets D matches up as well vs the Pats as it did vs the Ravens. The Pats are a much better screen team and have better weapons underneath.
Welker, Faulk, Gronk and Hernandez will present some major matchup problems for the Jets. If Brady, Faulk and Welker are killing them as they run constant blitzes, they will have to back off and play more conservative. Which will allow Brady the time to pick them apart. (Flacco had many chances to put the Jets away but consistantly missed open receivers.)

If the Pats get up 10 - 14 points early, the game will be all but over. Sanchez will not be able to mount a comeback unless they get some timely turnovers in Pats territory.

The Jets 3 'scoring' drives went for a total of 38 yards. They needed Leonard's 54 PR yds to get them there.

    Early 1st Q after a fumble 6 yds on 3 plays.
    Early 2nd Q after a 32 yd PR 27 yds on 5 plays.
    Early 4th Q after a 22 yd PR 5 yds on 3 plays

From what I have seen thus far, I would sum this game up this way:

The Jets top 5 defense vs. the Pats top 5 Offense

The Pats top 10 defense vs. the Jets bottom 5 Offense

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

The key to this game will be Gronk, Welker, and Edelman. Gronk because we saw what happened with Heap, and Welker and Edelman because they are the fastest recievers to get separation from the cover guy. I think Tom terrific will tear their blitz defense apart.

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

I agree, Gronk could have a huge game. Hopefully we see more of Hernandez as well.

The empty backfield idea terrifies me. It makes a lot of sense, but I'd feel a lot better with Faulk back there at least. Faulk can always split out wide if there's no blitz coming.

I hope Edelman is back as well. Welker was a big key in the win against the Jets, so to have mini-Welker available would be a big plus, especially if we do empty the backfield.

Of course they'll pick on Cromartie and Wilson, but I expect them to throw a few balls up to Moss to test Revis. He's been out all of training camp, wasn't up to his usual form in week 1, and may not be his usual self. I wouldn't count Randy out entirely.

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

Last year after Revis dished Moss and TB made it a point to try and score on Revis. They finally scored but there was a lot of missed opportunity lost with that effort. I would hope that this is done and over with for this year and we throw to the open guy. If they try to cover us one on one like the Ravens, the jets are going to have a very long day!

Re: PATs Player Talent vs Coaching

the jets lost by one point to a team that many have picked to go to the SB so if the pats can win by a FG in over time ill take it, the pats have 3 SB win by a total of 9 points a win is a win
