Sounds like a project, but I'm really tired of secondary guys who get easily injured.

PLAYER NOTES:

Dec 19 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks was waived Monday for the fourth time this season. Middlebrooks was signed Saturday as an insurance policy because of Shawntae Spencer’s injury. Middlebrooks saw limited action in Sunday’s game. He has played in five games this season.

Nov 23 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks, originally acquired in a trade from the Broncos for DE John Engelberger, was released for the third time this season.

Oct 19 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks should be available, if needed, after missing a game with a groin strain.

Oct 12 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks should be able to return to action after the bye week. He missed last week’s game with a groin strain.

Oct 5 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks will likely start on the left side despite being listed as questionable with a groin strain.

Sep 29 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks, who was signed this week, will see a lot of action as the 49ers find themselves short-handed in the defensive backfield. Middlebrooks will probably split some time with Derrick Johnson at left cornerback, and he will also see action in the nickel and dime packages.

Jul 21 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks, who was an underachiever in his four seasons with the Broncos, gives the 49ers some flexibility. He will compete for a starting job, but should be able to at least nail down a role as the nickel back.

Dec 6 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks played on Chargers tight end Antonio Gates when Gates split out at receiver, and Middlebrooks had good success against him. Middlebrooks said the Broncos' plan was to be more physical with Gates than other teams have been, and Denver held Gates to three catches for 31 yards.

Nov 30 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks will be important for the Broncos down the stretch, especially against San Diego's passing game on Sunday. Middlebrooks, who has struggled the past couple weeks, takes over as Denver's nickel back now that Lenny Walls will miss the rest of the season.

Nov 9 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks has impressed the coaches with his play this season. Middlebrooks is a former first-round pick who is finally 100 percent healthy after battling leg injuries his first three years. He is ahead of Lenny Walls, a starter last year, as Denver's nickel cornerback.

Nov 7 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks is still Denver's nickel cornerback even though Lenny Walls has returned to the lineup. The combination of Middlebrooks' improved play and Walls being slow to get back to 100 percent from a shoulder injury has kept Middlebrooks ahead of Walls on the depth chart.

Oct 3 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks continues to play well as Denver's nickel cornerback. Middlebrooks, a former first-round pick who has been the nickel back with CB Lenny Walls out of the lineup with an injury, had a sack on Sunday and recovered a fumble.

Sep 30 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks will probably see his playing time decrease with the return of Lenny Walls, which could be as soon as this week. Walls will likely assume the role of nickel back as soon as he's close to being healthy after suffering a shoulder injury in Week 1, and Middlebrooks will be Denver's dime cornerback. Middlebrooks, a former first-round pick, played well in Walls' absence and is still a valuable special-teams player.

Sep 14 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks will see his responsibility grow in the next four games. With Lenny Walls out for a month with a dislocated shoulder, Middlebrooks becomes Denver's nickel cornerback. Middlebrooks played well in the preseason after battling injuries his first three years.

Aug 9 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks has been working as Denver's nickel back. That's with starting CB Lenny Walls out with an ankle injury. Middlebrooks, a good special teams player, has not made an impact on defense in his three seasons in Denver.

Dec 25 2003 - CB Willie Middlebrooks will work at nickel this weekend in place of CB Kelly Herndon (hamstring). It will be one more chance to convince the Broncos he has a future with them. Middlebrooks has done nothing to live up to his first-round status, but has a shot now with Kelly Herndon sidelined because of injury.

Injury Notes

Oct 19 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks should be available, if needed, after missing a game with a groin strain.

Oct 12 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks should be able to return to action after the bye week. He missed last week’s game with a groin strain.

Oct 5 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks will likely start on the left side despite being listed as questionable with a groin strain.

Jan 12 2005 - CB Willie Middlebrooks (leg tendon injury) will need another month-and-a-half of rehab before he is completely healthy.

Dec 13 2004 - CB Willie Middlebrooks will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament between his tibia and fibula in his right leg. Middlebrooks, a former first-round pick, was having his best season before the injury.

He's been a colossal bust, I mean Chris Canty bust, since he was drafted. He remains Shanahan's biggest embarrasment in his GM career. Dude just can't cover, and can't seem to learn.

Judging by how we've signed replacement standins for injured starters, maybe Asante had more than his 'bell rung' after all.

Maybe he was Liberty Belled.

IF "He's been a colossal bust" why are PATs even looking at him? Surely there
is someone who is not a "colossal bust" to look at.

At this point of the season, no probably not. It costs nothing to bring the guy in, but there is no way you can NOT call him a colossal bust. 24th pick overall, and can't hold on to a job, being released by two organizations with subpar secondaries. Mention his name to a Bronco fan sometime. It'll be the equivalent of "Chris Canty" or "Eugene Chung".

Agree to some extend. Maybe he would be a better fit at backup safety - he has the size. Or, a nickle or dime back, or ST. You noticed how thin we were when samuels went down.

Any word on this guy? I think if he works out well for the coaches, I'd rather see him than Troy out there on nickel and dime packages.

Belichick can turn most chicken sh!t into filet mignon.

Unless they have sh!t for brains...

I dont want the guy to join the Pats. If the Broncos keep releasing him he cant be all that good. And besides, he'd have to really get used to the Pats defense off the bat. Asante Samuel should be ok, Hobbs is fine. No need for this dude, if we do need another secondary guy, get someone else...next year we will have plenty of CB's around. Gay and Poole will be back etc.

Willie never started in Denver and he had trouble learning the system. He was very fast but was always seemed to fall behind the WRs because he would jump on the fake pump. But his last year with Denver he did start to do better.
