It sounds as if BB and/or Seely decided early in the off-season it was time for Seely to move on.

Looks like a good pick up and potential upgrade at the position. Hope looks aren't deceiving.

Personally, haven't been in love with the special teams play the last few years. I am guess since Seely is moving on to Mangini that Belichick wasn't either.

I posted my thoughts on O'B in the coaching thread (it was at the top at the time-didn't see this one), but I LIKE what I read in his bio.

"As the Ravens’ special teams coach from 1996-98, O’Brien led a unit that ranked second in the NFL with six special-teams return scores during that time, including four on punt returns to tie for the league lead. Baltimore had the league’s fourth-best punt return average (11.9 yds.) in those three seasons and sent two players to the Pro Bowl. Wide receiver Jermaine Lewis tied for the NFL lead with two punt returns for touchdowns and ranked fifth in the league with a 12.7-yard punt return average in 1998 to earn Pro Bowl honors while safety Bennie Thompson also earned all-star recognition that year for his special-teams coverage ability."

    >>The more I read about O'B the more I like! JMHO but I'm rather looking forward to seeing how all these changes will work out for our boys.

EDIT: There's that Punter thing again ;)

    1) We have a HC who loves Special Teams and expects defensive and offensive starters to play special teams. He also considers certain ST positions so important that he allocates positions for STers, whether they can play another position or not. I know there are those who think Alexander, Izzo, Ventrone and Slater play other positions.

    2) We have an Assistant HC who used to be a fine Special Teams coach and will certainly support the Special Team coach whenever that is needed.

    3) And now we have a Special Teams coach who is as at least as good as the coach he replaced.

I have no worries about the quality of our Special Teams coaches.

Now defensive coaches on the other hand...........

Waiting for the OC, personally. But why in the world would you leave the Pats to join Mangini's staff?

THAT'S the question I keep asking too. Maybe I'm missing something but what exactly is the fascination with Mangini, who's done zip, zero, nada since he left here and became HC:confused: The Man,The Myth,The Legend. Temporarily:hijacked:-all done:D

But his contract was up, and one school of thought says that perhaps he wasn't going to be invited back. We'll probably never know either.

Our Special teams were not good this year so I like the move.

Tubby Ratfink really didn't do much with the Patriots, either. He had half a season as defensive coordinator before BB shoved him aside and took over.

Exactly! I was shocked he got snapped up so fast to begin with; a LOT of people figured him to be DONE after being fired from the Jests but instead, he gets another HC position almost immediately. Not only that the Browns hire HIM before even hiring a GM.

Now that he's there, every coach just can't wait to work for him. RAC,who got fired, will now stay with that loser of a coach? Somehow he's become The Buzz and for the life of me I have no idea why. He's a sneaky, subversive little rat, and he's obsessed with BB:mad:
