As per Reiss, to be the new special assistant and secondary coach. Other coaching moves as well. I thought about Dom after reading the other thread on why potentially our secondary stunk and the possible dismissal of Joel Collier.

8 years later Dom Capers finally hired!

So, when we first got Belichick I was kinda upset, I mean here was a guy who couldn't get it done in cleveland AND we had to give up a first round pick for him

I thought why not just get capers, boy was I wrong

    Well, we finally got Capers.

I like it too. Experienced coach to help out the defense. Unless Samuel resigns he's gonna have his work cut out for him. Assuming we don't trade for a veteran CB like Dangelo Hall or something...

Wow! That's a great addition. I'm actually somewhat suprised that he would sign on as a secondary coach.

Wow, that's a very impressive hire. I bet he'll be helping Pees out some too - I wonder exactly what his "special assistant" role is. Regardless . . . :rocker:

I like it. Just like players, now coaches are trying to hop on board to get a ring.

Maybe he will turn Ellis Hobbs into the next Deion Sanders.

Great hire. Gotta wonder what this says about Pees future in NE ... Capers is a big name and I'm sure is getting paid DC money.

Great move by both parties. Capers does well and he can move up in the Pats organization or elsewhere. Pats get a former NFL head coach who's mindset is defense.

Good point. Maybe Pees isn't the answer for our DC.

Now let's get Charlie Weiss back from ND! (joking...sort of)

    Great move ... love it.

Seeing Belichick working with the defensive players during the Super Bowl was attention getting ... this move will pay off huge... Dean Pees will be given enough room to hang himself.

A 1 year favor to Dom while he waits for a job to open up next year?
Even for 1 year he'll be a huge help ... Belichick is lacing up the gloves ... nice to see.

excellent pickup. I'm giddy. Doesn't this make you feel that this is going to be a heavy defensive draft for the Pats?

Just found this on Wikipedia: He was also famous because he kept a 17 hour per day work schedule and sleeping just five hours per night, often on a couch in his office.

5 hours of sleep? BB has some work to do. :D

That's what I was alluding to in my Moss thread. Belichick is going back to his roots of old time football ... heavy "D" and a smart and calculating offense.

Great move. I wonder what that mean for Pees. Pees seemed to have gone from heir apparent to Belichick to losing some responsibilities. It was a little damning for Pees to see Belichick working with the first defense all the time when the Pats' offense was on the field.

I have a feeling Capers could be DC in 2009. It should help free up Belichick so he can be more involved with the offense as well as the defense during games. I never ever remember Belichick ever be so univolved with the offense during games even under Weis as this year.

i think this is the start of the defensive rebuilding just like last season and the offence, imagine we come back next year with the best offence scoring the most points, and the best defence with the lowest points conceeded

i dont know about Capers being a DC. Isnt his scheme quite similar to what pitt runs with lebeau ? i may be wrong. BB's scheme is totally different so unless A)BB decided to change schemes(very unlikely) B)have some inventive ideas of merging them like he did with our offense(which could be very exciting), its difficult to see capers as a DC.
and if even if he becomes a successful DC, he will be in line for HC jobs soon.something we have been dealing with forever .
