From NFL.com:

Key stat
The Rams committed nine penalties for 63 yards, while the Patriots did not draw a single flag all game.

Granted, they very well should have, but when was the last time the Patriots had zero accepted penalties (and the way this is worded, it sounds like not a single flag, let alone accepted penalty)?

BTW--IIRC, through seven games, the Cassel-led O is the least penalized O in the entire NFL (nine penalties, IIRC).

Re: One key stat from this game

This team has been disciplined since week 1, they dont hurt themselves with penalties.

Re: One key stat from this game

They did draw a holding call but the result of the play was a sack, so it wasn't accepted.

You're right though, a very well disciplined game by the whole team.

Re: One key stat from this game

I'm surprised Wilfork didn't at least get one, what'd he get like 9 last week?

Seymour should have drawn roughing the passer atleast once, probably twice, though he may not have tried it again if he got called the first time.

If he tries that crap on Manning it will be 15 easy!

I visited a Rams forum for entertainment and you'll never guess what they had to say on this topic...

Some Turd said:
1. Nobody cares about St. Louis. Or the Rams. The national media hasn't even mentioned the scandalous officiating today. They don't care. Very few brought it up after SB36. Then, it was the Martz/Georgia/bringing down the arrogant Rams thing. Now, we just don't matter for much.

2. You're probably not going to beat NE in Foxboro unless you do what Miami was able to pull off -- a thrashing. Close games will go to the Pats. I am not yet ready to say that this game was fixed or biased from the league side, but officials can become biased and give certain players a break if they hold them in high regard. In other words, they don't see the obvious hold from a Pats player, while they'll ring up Incognito or Barron every time. Seymour can rough up Bulger without a call. But ZERO penalties??? Not possible.

Wow, what a long time to be bitter.

Anyway, if you have time, here's some free amusement.

So that's how they won. Was it Walt, or Winter?

Games in Indianapolis are among the most professionally officiated in all of sports.

Crying already, gotta love it:p

Nobody's crying. The Pats got flagged for the most penalty yards in franchise history in your old #$@%)y dome. How'd that work out for you?

You guys know whos really crying? Everyone associated with the Rams!
Seems that even without Tom Brady other teams will still manage to make excuses for us beating them.

"Considering the lack of class, the cheating, the covering up of severe rules violations, how do the Patriots continue to get all the calls? How do they seemly always get to play 12 on 11 football games with the officials acting as their 12th man? Simple, the New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has Roger Goodell’s testicles in his back pocket."

LMAO:D that was a good read, thanks for finding it!

And now their newest HC is crying to the league at a time when what that franchise desperately needs is a change in it's historic whiner culture...7 years and counting since the night not only a dynasty WAS born, but an epic whiner was spawned.

In a copycat league you'd think these HC's might take a page from Bill's book and just STFU with the excuses and tell their players to be accountable for their own destiny and quit looking for someone else to blame when they spit the bit. Hasslett needs to spend his time figuring out whether Bulger is still a franchise QB or damaged goods.

What's next - we all submit tapes detailing every missed call in every game every week? Win or lose? LOL The league will have to quadruple it's staffing...

they're playing like they have little margin for error this year. it's amazing how BB and the staff get them ready every week. With Brady, then Maroney, then Harrison, then Morris out, this would have been a game a lot of teams would have mailed in.

i watched steelers-giants on sunday. at one point, the steelers had three straight penalties that cost them first downs and took them out of scoring position, a couple of them really dumb. my first thought was to put it on the coaches as much as the players. then, i though how great BB is.

Nice little article at projo on the topic.

Patriots prove penalty-free game can play important role | New England Patriots | projo.com | The Providence Journal

Excerpt:

New England had to look no further than the players lined up opposite them on Sunday to see how penalties can hurt.

On the opening kickoff, Rams returner Dante Hall had a 75-yard return negated by a holding penalty on one of his teammates. Instead of St. Louis starting its opening drive on the Pats' 24, it began on its own 32.

Later in the first half, the Rams had gotten well into field-goal range when a holding penalty on offensive lineman Jacob Bell pushed them back 10 yards; Adalius Thomas dropped Marc Bulger for a 13-yard loss on first-and-20, and St. Louis was out of field-goal range.

One last flag - St. Louis had nine in all, totaling 63 yards - may have helped end the team's final drive. On third-and-10 from the New England 33, guard Richie Incognito was wishing he was incognito; whistled for a false start, the Rams were now facing third-and-15. Bulger's downfield pass attempt ended up in Deltha O'Neal's arms, effectively sealing the game for the Patriots.
