ESPN reports that only four previous times have two 5-0 (or better) teams faced each other. Never have they scored more than 20 points COMBINED. The previous record was set by the Pats over the Jets in 2004. The over under this week is 53 points, and with only one dominating defense playing, I think its safe to say that a new scoring record for such games will be set.

    2004: Patriots (5-0) 13, Jets (5-0) 7
    1973: Vikings (6-0) 10, Rams (6-0) 9
    1923: Canton Bulldogs (5-0) 7, Chicago Cardinals (5-0) 3
    1921: Buffalo All-Americans (6-0) 0, Akron Pros (7-0) 0

Its interesting how the top teams in the NFL have the best offenses, not defenses as in the past.

NE: Scoring #1, Offensive Yards #2
Dallas: Scoring #2, Offensive Yards #1
Indy: Scoring #3, Offensive Yards #3

Ever since we passed on Randy Moss in the '98 draft, he's had a vendetta against us-he's had MONSTER games EVERY time.

I'm sure Dallas will be draping DBs all over him the majority of the game.

Here in SoCal that game won't even be televised.

They'll be showing Raiders - Chargers instead...

    Same here in NoCal.

I absolutely detest living in a two-team market.

How many DBs does Dallas have again? :D

Seriously, it's like Romeo said, when he used that tactic: pick your poison.

Draping the DBs on Moss might work... let's put two on him at all times, and one more on him sometimes by virtue of a zone. That gets you to 4 DBs with single coverage on Welker and Stallworth. Plus the nickelback/linebacker covering Watson now has to split his time covering either W or Stallworth when that third guy is on Moss. Or is the plan to play a dime package all game? That's a lot like how we've played the Colts in the past, so it's not such a crazy idea... but can Dallas get pressure with two linemen (for example?)

... I guess that approach isn't really going to be exactly stacking the box for Maroney and/or Morris runs, either...

Okay, all this is stating the obvious. If the Pats are still clicking by Sunday, it's damn hard to stop them, even if you do put half the defense on Moss. The trouble is he's just one of several new weapons in the receiving corps, plus Watson is showing marked improvement this year, especially catching balls on deep seam routes.

Everybody has down days, but on an up day, I see Dallas as having their hands full.

Of course, there's always the possibility of Parcells outcoaching us. All he needs is that defensive coordinator he use to have with the Giants...

    D'OH!

I am not a homer, but a new Patriots record could be beating two undefeated teams in one season, where each team has 5 or more wins (Dallas and Indy.) That way, of only 6 times two 5+ win undefeated teams have faced each other in history, the 3 most recent will be the Patriots participating and winning.

Patriots could not only go 19-0 (or at least win the big one), but they will beat two undefeated (5+ win) teams as well.

And then, beat them again in the Patriots' last two games of the season, of course.

    #24 Jersey

Moss is going to make Newman and Williams look like the overhyped players they are.

I think Pittsburgh may have done it to us and Philly in 04.

I thought the Niners and Giants were undefeated several games into a season (the same season) back in the early 90's. Maybe they were, but didn't play each other in the regular season that year?

I checked. Yes the Steelers beat a 6-0 Pats team than the very next week beat an undefeated Eagles team in 04.
Can't seem to remember who won SB that year.:D

The Steelers weren't undefeated at the time.

I think it was 1990 when the Giants and 49ers were both 10-0 and heading for a week 12 showdown.

Both lost in week 11. :D

They were 6-0 when they played the Pats and 7-0 against Philly.
That link is the 04 schedule.

Steelers lost to Baltimore in week 2. That was the "1" in their 15-1 regular season.

But NE still has a VERY solid D. It is only game 5, but I am picking Pat's as the team to beat this year. Unbeaten? That is nearly impossible with the parity these days. Regardless, it would be exciting whether it is NE, Colts or Dallas.
