Patriots Release Inactives For Sunday's Game
    By: Ian Logue

The team just released their inactive list for Sunday's game, with DL Jake Bequette, CB Alfonzo Dennard, TE Daniel Fells, DL Marcus Forston, DL Justin Francis, OL Nick McDonald and RB Shane Vereen as those who won't be playing this afternoon....

    Nothing shocking here.
It will be very interesting to see how Rivera, White, Cole, Ebner, Wilson and maybe Moore are used on special teams. Except for Wilson none need to be active for the sake of defense (none individually I mean. Of couse a corner and a LB must be)

I think Francis and Bequette being inactive could mean that we will see Cunningham as an inside rusher in long yardage sub packages.

I'm surprised that Fells is inactive and that Hoomanuwanui is active.. Fells may not be 100% yet.

I'm curious o see if Ebner gets any snaps with the defense.

for all the talk of binkies out there ... his play will be in the eyes of all of us - he's running out of time. The inside rusher is a favorite weapon of Belichick and it showed how valuable it was when Wright got the concussion.

Yes, it definitely appears injury related.

Why is his time running out? His career is all ahead of him.

BB has never used a 34 OLB type as an inside rusher, which is what makes this interesting.
I love the idea, and always thought that would have been the best use of Derrick Burgess (who did it for years elsewhere).

I find it interesting that only Bequette, Francis and Forston are healthy inactives. If it tells us anything is that we have too many DLmen right now and I doubt very much if Forston and Francis are on the roster in a few weeks.

Too bad about Fells. I guess we will have to wait another week to see 4 TEs all at once.

I suppose to some extent the other injuries depleting the #s at other spots could have something to do with so many DLs inactive, plus, the depth at every other defensive position contributes heavily on special teams while DL does not.

I don't think we are ever going to see 4 active TEs. 4 are there so 3 are healthy at all times, hopefully.

This thing that has surprised me the most about Cunningham is his explosive first step. Even when I was one of the few who thought he was doing a good job as a rookie OLB, the last thing I would ascribe to him was a quick first step.

He has really improved on this aspect of the game. Its always been a pet peeve of mine. I believe all players can improve on this aspect of their game. Watch this afternoon and on nearly every play you will see at least 2 DLmen on both sides start to move well after the snap. I don't understand, much like tackling, why this isn't done better across the league

Exactly my point - Belichick has found 1 useful role for him - if he fails he has no other options on this team.

I agree with what you say though ... a faster inside rusher is extremely interesting and will be fun to watch.

We had great defenses when our safeties used to rush up the middle at times.

How is that? His role is DE in the 43, OLB in the 34, and either DE or DT in sub.
He is useful in all of those roles.

Rodney Harrison was the best blitzing DB I have ever seen. He didn't even need to get near the QB, he would come free to get picked up by a RB, and would come full bore at the RB, so the QB had to get rid of the ball before seeing whether the RB picked him up. I saw that happen hundreds of times. Now in truth though, for a long time, Harrison was really playing a LB spot in that sub package.
