Goodbye Demps, nice almost knowing you, have fun running, hopefully in 4 years we'll see you running in the Olympics. What a waste, I wish the Jets had signed him.

There are likely teams who may have granted his wish to return mid-season, possibly even the crazy Jets. We don't know if that would have benefitted them or not, so it's hard to say that you wish the Jets would have signed him. It isn't like he's costing a lot of money etc. It really wasn't that big of a deal.

I wonder if squatting on him would be a viable solution at least for the 2013 season anyway, aside from the cash concerns of course. I'd still hate to see him go somewhere else and either change his mind or have another organization accept his 1/2 and 1/2 season decisions.

I'm not going to lose much sleep over some guy who played in a couple of meaningless preseason games. It's not like we are talking about a guy who made an impact in the NFL, or even... really... showed that he could make an NFL roster.

What possible disadvantage does "squatting on him for 2103" pose? He costs nothing in salary or in cap hit. If he appears useless when reporting 6 games in, he could even be traded to the Jets.

Uncertain? I read in today's Herald that he wanted to focus on track and was quoted as saying “Listen coach, I want to do both, but in order for me to get where I want to be on the track and field side, it will take a full year of preparation,” Demps said. “And after the (track) season, if you guys are willing to let me come back, probably midseason, and work out, and train and get ready for the season. I’ll be able to do that. But if not, then I guess I’ll focus on running.” Now picture BB and tell me this guy will ever wear an authentic NEP uniform.

having seen him play regularly in college , I do believe he could have been an impact player in many ways. my real question is this, how much does running track pay and does it anyway compare to what a success in the nfl could bring? if he wanted to be a track star why did he even bother to sign an nfl contract? I would put him on the failure to report list and at least prevent anyone from signing him- he could come back and burn the pats someday.

Well that's pretty much my point. When I used the term " cash concerns" I was speaking only of actual cash, obviously not of cap hit. I wouldn't say he costs "nothing," but your point remains the same. It would be up to the team to decide if that decision would be worth a waste of whatever smaller money it would entail.

I honestly have no idea how little the money would be. You could tell me it'd be 10k, 25k, 50k, etc...I know it's very small, but I'm not sure of the actual specifics of the options and what the cost would be.

The main question would be whether they would agree to squat on his rights while still having him as a member, which would obviously cost some cash money until placed on the non reporting list--if that's what they chose to do.

I'm sure there have been plenty of discussions about some of these thoughts in the other thread about him, I just haven't read it yet.

He costs nothing now or for being on the non-report list

Okay, thanks PWP. I knew it didn't cost anything for the non-report list, but I wasn't sure of the smaller implications for actual cash money in the off months. I suppose we'd be looking at 0k then

That makes sense considering there'd be no workout bonus or mandatory camp cost if he isn't participating on any level.

I don't understand why it would cost anything, it did not cost anything to keep Waters on the list. The guy does not show up to camp, the letter gets sent, he is lost for the year and the pats keep his rights for the following 2 years.
