Not a record tracker thread, yet a Week 17 guide for what we'll need to break NFL regular season records this Saturday night.

Add on anything not included, I always enjoy having a print out of things to look for while watching the game.

Numbers needed to set new records...

TD passes in regular season (2) Tom Brady
Receiving TDs in regular season (2) Randy Moss
    Points in regular season (6)
Different players with a TD (1)
Passer Rating (122.6) The minimum rating needed by Brady (119.7) in this game to defeat Manning’s mark (121.1)
    Scoring Average (71)

    Records to add upon...

Team Touchdowns in regular season (71)
    Overall point differential (311)
Most QB to WR TDs in regular season (21)
    (Brady to Moss)
Most points after touchdown in regular season (71) (Stephen Gostkowski)

    With a win...

First team in NFL history to go 16-0 in regular season
Consecutive regular season wins (16) Currently: Hold record with 15
Most games won in a season (16) Currently: Tied with 4 others @ 15
Consecutive regular season wins (19) Currently: Tied with '03/'04 Pats @ 18

Welker needs 1 more catch to break Troy Brown's record for most receptions in a season.

Any franchise records would be cool as well, sure there's a ton.

You need some hope - no matter how desperate - to cling to....

I beleive Brady needs 106 passing yards to break Bledsoe's mark 4555 in '94.

Here's another one, though I have no way of finding out what the record is:

The Pats have beat at least 3 AFC playoff teams (Indy / San Diego / Pittsburgh), with a possibility of a 4th if Cleveland makes it in. They've also beat 2 NFC playoff teams with a possibility of a 3rd if the Redskins make it in (Dallas / New York Giants)

Thats 5 playoff teams, with a possible of 7. Wow.

Edit: Jumping the gun, but assuming the Pats beat NYG

Has any other team in NFL history ever been ahead of another team by 14.5 games? I don't believe so. Therefore, this year's Pats have another record and it can be improved next week! :)

Hmmm you mean by how many games do the Pats lead the last place team in their division? Yeah it's gotta be a record. Unless there was a team that went 15-1 the same year another team went 0-16.

Just checked the facts. The Tampa Bay Bucs are the only team to go winless at 0-14 in 1976. The schedule was only 14 games long. So the Patriots with their 15-0 record and the Fins with their 1-14 records represent the largest game spread in a division ever. Nice. The Fins don't go 0-16 but they hold a different record in futility!

    Thanks for the research, VJCPatriot!

BTW: re your milk carton signature, I think I saw that guy somewhere.
Might have been today. Maybe in Foxboro? :)

Yeah... I'm thinkin' maybe Maroney's earned himself an extended audition ;)

Is there any way to quantify "Class"?

As I understand it, we've generated a record amount of "Class" and advice about "Class" among opposing teams this year. Coincidentally, we've generated a record number of losing opponents as well :)

As for the Dolts' trolls... yeah it would suck to set every conceivable record, and not go home with our trophy back where it belongs. Sure it can happen...that's why they play the games.

But it seems unlikely to go down that way. The Colts will be one and done, my fine horseshoed friends, and should count themselves lucky to have been granted that one moment of enhanced-crowd-noise, dome-heated ascendency.

It's the Colts' misfortune to be around during this epoch of greatness in New England. In another age, the teams Indy has fielded this decade might have been something special, maybe even a dynasty.

    Bad timing, my friends. :)

Awwww - what a nice guy to worrry about us poor lowly Patriot fans even while the Dolts continue down their late season slide. Let's hope it does not turn into a post season slide as well. It sure would be fun to "play gun and run" with the Dolts in the AFCCG.

Where is this nice game being held? (Off mic, you can hear an unintellegable low squeeky voice) On mic the narrator says "REALLY - FOXBORO? "Gosh is that FAIR?!! How come they get to have the best team and the game at home as well?!!"

Fade to the Stars and Stripes, then pan right to the face of Flying Elvis....

not to be too picky, but I just ran the numbers on the passer rating stat and it's not possible for Brady to take that record, if you avg out his rating over the season (currently 117.2) even if he puts up a perfect 158.3 against the Giants he'll come out with a 119.65 for the season. the last two weeks have been stinkers in terms of QB rating

Yup you're right, didn't have his updated number. I'll take that one out.

Edit: Err, it appears I can't edit my first post?
