Is there any reason for that?

SB 36 - TD pass to Proehl
SB 38 - TD pass to Proehl
SB 39- TD pass ( remember Belichick screaming at Mangini?)
SB 42- Do i have to say it?

its a very strange thing. and it finally came back to bite us,

Long tiresome season....Long tiresome day of Craziness.....and 58 minutes of football can leave you with very little left in the tank.

The one in SB 39 was purely cosmetic. The D did fine there just by taking time off the clock (though the Eagles O gets most of the credit).

In 36 the D was gassed. In 38 they were gassed and injured. Thankfully the O and Adam stepped up. This year obviously we need not discuss again.

Thankfully the Patriots have always managed to have a little more left in the tank than the other guys.. Until, well, you know...

Well, that's certainly one way to look at it I guess. I'm certainly not about to forget that Brady drove them to three Super Bowl wins just because he didn't do it in the fourth.

    No Jersey Selected

I thought the Patriots have played in six Super Bowls. Maybe, the two before Brady don't count?

wow, that is an interesting fact that was well worth pointing out

too bad we could not stop the trend

in 3 out of the 4 games the TDs were scored in a one score game

if we went on to lose SB 36 and SB 38, would Ricky Proehl go down in sports history along with Bucky Dent, Aaron Boone, etc.?

Ricky Proehl is such an odd figure in Patriots history, especially since he was the one who famously said 'Tonight, a dynasty is born' before the Rams-Pats SB.

So weird to think that if Vinatieri doesn't make those kicks, Proehl could have not only been right about the Rams, but been the key guy to score those game-tying or winning TD's, in an alternate universe he would be hailed as the clutch guy for the Rams dynasty.

What about '86 and '96? Those count too.

No the maddening thing is that Brady DID score the go ahead touchdown in the Superbowl. Our defense just couldn't hold on to preserve that slim margin. The other maddening fact is that if BB let's Gostkowski kick that FG on 4th and 13 and he makes it, we are looking at OT instead of a loss.

If the Pats could have played a semi-decent game in the Super Bowl, they would have been up at least 10 when the Giants had the ball last.

as an outside observer and avid football fan...I still can't believe Bill didn't kick the FG in that spot.

As much as you can argue the offense did not make adjustments, etc -- which is true -- the stat mentioned above tells the tale. A dominant defense--hell, a competent defense--gets the team off the field in the 4th quarter.

Instead of the story of brilliant Eli, the story would be choke-artist Manning tossing a pick during the nut test of the final 2 minutes.

As a Pats fan, I think Bill's arrogance got the better of him. Seriously, no coach goes for it on 4th-and-13 in a defensive battle in the 3rd quarter where points are a at a premium. I've seen hundreds of coaches send crappy kickers out there to attempt 48-yarders. Gostkowski wasn't bad enough to not try. I hear some try to use the "what if it was blocked or missed" excuse, but has any fan ever thought that for a 48-yarder?

Beyond just this, the Rams put up back to back TDs on the Pat's defense, and so did the Giants. Also, in the Colts AFCCG, they put up like 14+ in the 4th.

The funny thing is NEVER happens in the regular season as far as I can remember really in any game of importance really.
