I find it interesting that Seau and Warren are captains in particular. Warren over someone like Seymour, and Seau given he has been with the team for only 2 years (really more like 1/2 a season).

Warren has been the better player than Seymour over the last 2 years and deserves it. That's why the FO extended him before his rookie deal was up.

Its hard to be named a captain when you dont play....

Warren deserved it over Seymour. Let him actually play and produce, unlike the last year and a half or so.

Actually, he wasn't. He was named a captain in between the Tennessee and NYG games I believe.

Based on what?? Difficult to tell, but watch the tapes of last year.. Warren is good, but made better because of the doubles on Seymour. This is not a statistic driven defense, so it is very difficult to compare. The barometer is that Seymour is consistently voted to the probowl by his peers.

Bryan Cox was elected a captain prior to the 2001 season, before he had ever played a snap for New England....

This is hilarious, just because your username is "the Seymonsta". I just found it ironic.

I hope that Seymour takes this as a sign that he is losing his dominating stature in the organization. I hope this pisses him off and he works extra hard and comes back extra strong from his injury.
On the other hand it is great to see Warren making progress and becoming more of a leader, lets just hope his new deal doesn't spoil that. (yes that is a knock on seymour and his play since he signed his mega deal)

It's also useless to be a captain when you aren't allowed on the practice field. That goes for Seymour, Harrison and Troy Brown alike. Nothing personal, I'm guessing.

I think all elected are deserving and one in particular, Faulk, overdue.

Seau is the consumate pro, the grizzly vet that all young players on the D can and should emulate, especially his work ethic he is a leader by example.

Bru and Vrabes, again leaders by example and guys who will set the tone in the locker room.

I believe Warren will not relent on what has gotten him this far and will continue to improve. He now has the attention of opposing coaches and I think that Green will benefit from it.

One thing I notice about all the elected captains, their work ethic and passion for the game.

BTW, I think the loss of Seymour and Harrison are somewhat minimalized with the addition of AD and the return of Seau and Samuel. Let people continue to think that these two guys missing from the D will somehow put a chink in it. There is no doubt that the Pats are better with them on the field but in the long run, I think it's going to be better for the Pats with the continued development of Sanders and Green and the fact that when they (Rodney and Sey) do come back, they will be rested and ready to go with something to prove. Just the way we like em'.

Just because he happens to be one of my favorite players does not preclude him from ridicule when deserved.

I was very disappointed with his effort and results last year. He was not the same player and I hope its due to just injury.

    No Jersey Selected

I'm saddened that Harrison won't be a defensive captain this season because of the suspension. But there are definitely some worthy replacements. Nice to see Seau got the nod. I was especially happy to hear when he re-signed with the team this offseason.

    From Espn page 2

The dog days of August have finally given way to September, and that means it's time for the NFL, which kicks off its season Thursday night. And the season's biggest uniform change will be apparent before the game even starts, when the captains meet at the center of the field for the coin toss.

That's because team captains this year will be wearing a special captain's patch on the upper-right chest area (as you can sort of see here). The patches will be color-coordinated to match each jersey, and the gold star underneath the "C" marks the number of years that the player has been a captain under the league's new captaincy initiative.

How big a change is this? This big: To Uni Watch's knowledge, only three NFL teams in the past 50 years have worn captains' designations -- the 1994 Patriots, the 1992 Chargers, and the 1983 Cowboys. And Uni Watch wishes it had stayed that way. For starters, real estate on NFL jerseys is already in short supply, what with the disappearing sleeves, the massive NFL Equipment logo, the increasing use of chest wordmarks, and so on. Adding another element to the mix is gonna make for some seriously crowded jerseys -- especially for teams that already wear other jersey patches.

IMO, this is his last year. He is a specialist and brings very little to the LB crew. IMO, His ST play has declined.
