Patriots Defense Steps Back In Loss To Ravens
    By: Steve Balestrieri

the most glaring item for the Patriots in this one has to be the total absence of an effective pass rush....

I've never been one to blame refs, but the thing that pissed me off more than anything else last night was Oher getting away with idk how many holding penalties on Chandler Jones. They weren't borderline either, all of them were Oher's arm wrapped around Jones' neck after Jones already beat him off the edge.

It's time Jermaine Cunningham gets a try at LDE in place of Ninkovich. Ninkovich is providing absolutely no pressure while he's also struggling to set the edge on runs to his side of the field. He's a good 3-4 OLB in the old system but he doesn't have a real position in a 4-3 defense. There were tons of plays last night where they got pressure on Flacco's left side but Ninkovich was getting thrown around so easily that Flacco could roll to the right with ease.

We shouldn't overreact too much to one game on defense (offense is a different story since it's now 2 weeks of bad offense), but Ninkovich has been a non-factor in all 3 games so far. Outside of giving Cunningham/others snaps at LDE, nothing the coaching staff can do other than get on McCourty's ass and try to prevent the secondary from falling apart.
