Patriots Cuts: Boyce, Bequette, Worthy, Beauharnais...

Dobson isn't short or slow. So I'll raise your Patterson with Dobson, Jamie Collins, Boyce and a year of Blount (and the pick we'll get for him in 2015).

Dobson, despite his injuries, had more receiving yards than Patterson last year. Patterson has great size and speed, I agree, but the knock against him has always been that he can't run routes more complicated than "run to the Buick and turn left."

I'd rather have Collins straight up - throw in the rest and the Vikings got the very short end of that trade, imo.

Amendola had more yards per catch and receptions despite playing hurt, so why was this guy such a loss, when we got Collins and Dobson in that draft?

Hooman IS worthless now that we have a TE2 to catch passes.
Should Gronk again go down, Devlin can fill the blocking and occasionally pass catching role that Hoo filled.

While I definitely agree with you PWP, it's the blocking aspect that I feel kept him on the initial 53 man roster. Wright is basically useless at blocking, while Hooman is basically useless at receiving. It's quite the conundrum, and bears keeping a close eye on.

Patterson finished his rookie year with 9 total touchdowns. That is A LOT for a rookie. Some of those touchdowns were long game changing plays.

I do like Dobson. I am rooting for him big time.

Please, please stop. Start a thread

AJ Edds was cut by the Nyets. He could do some long snapping as well as provide some LB depth?

Interesting thought. BB clearly has always liked him (signed on 3 different occasions), he was the long snapper for Iowa for 3 years and he played well at LB for the Jets this preseason. Perhaps they were waiting to see if Edds was going to be cut before finalizing their own 53.

Are you saying they think he can play ILB?
“We had good grades, a good feeling for Fleming coming out of Notre Dame," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said earlier this offseason. "He's an outside linebacker/end-of-the-line type of player ... but also has shown some versatility to play some inside as a linebacker and he runs well. He's strong, he's physical, and he's shown up in the kicking game.

"So a combination of his athleticism, intelligence, versatility, toughness, and all those things that made him a good player in college.

Cutting the LS Danny Aiken may be a move worthy of BB and genius. Now we know that Bill has had that in mind for awhile. He has had Ninkovitch, who was originally signed as a possible LS/LB, before he blossomed, and Ryan Wendell both practicing Long Snaps.

Everyone thought that was just BB covering for all possible emergencies, and didn't pay attention.

I think not. He knew that this Team had more depth and talent than ever before, and he would have problems getting down to 53. This strategem might save a talented player, long enough to find a place for him.

The only thing we don't know is who will be invited to the PS and who might be claimed on waivers. But I'll make a guess we'll lose some, and the PS will be still be stronger than most team's 46 through 53.

Despite the strengths, there are still talent weaknesses at reserve LB. The DL and OL need sorting out, but in both cases there is talent there, and must only be sorted out.

Now sit back and admire a Genius at Work...

I think the answer to this question may be "how many ILB do you need if you decide to run a 3-4"? If only two of them are going to start anyway, then having those three is pretty solid depth. White is 80% ST and 20% disaster insurance at LB.

One more than if you play a 4-3, at least starters.

We learned something else too. Buchanan's injuries, as well as Chris Jones and Sealver Siliga must be relatively minor, and not long enduring.

Too bad about Morris though. I thought he had showed some talent.

See, I'm actually wondering if he's NOT that much better of a receiver than some of the OL alternatives, which may point to your reasoning being correct?

As for Solder working at TE, I'm not crazy about having our franchise LT playing TE, but I suppose football is football.

Either way, whatever is done will make some sense, so we'll have to trust Belichick--as usual.

Based on practice anecdotes and also just on what we can guess about his day-in/day-out skills-practice focus, Hooman is surely much better at catching passes than Solder. Surely he's better at route-running as well. I'd be astonished if Solder's size outweighed or even balanced that.

Maybe, but I'd bet money that this team has a dedicated long snapper before long. Belichick has talked about the evolution of "specialists," and the importance of holders and long snappers getting consistent reps with the punter and kicker. AFAIK, every team in the league now has a pure LS.

I see Wright as insurance against Gronk being out. We'd still have someone at TE to catch the ball. Devlin could assume Hooman's blocking role, or a OT.

How big should it be?:D

Beauharnais was cut with an injury settlement. Maybe he comes back.

In addition to forming initial 53-man roster, Patriots were busy working out 12 players, including QB Jeff Mathews: http://es.pn/1sS1oBh

Two QB workouts.

NE will not go into Miami without a dedicated long snapper. You can write that in pen.

Hooman is valued a lot more highly by the team than the fans. I suspect he isn't anywhere near the bottom 3 on the roster and can feel comfortable taking out a full year lease.

Not necessarily. It is still possible that any of them end up on the IR-return. Teams have to wait until Wednesday to designate that.
