Yeah, ok. If you say so. Think about this for a second. Wouldn't you be a little upset if you were Tom Brady knowing that your future go-to-guy at wide reciever may be out for next season? If you know anything about competetive sports, you would be a little upset. Knowing that your recievers next season consist of Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney? Not to mention the inconsistant Ben Watson and Daniel Graham leaving to free agency. I'm sure Brady isn't thinking about that right now due to him having a child very soon. But when the season rolls around again, I sure hope for Tom Brady's sake, that the Pats do something with the wide reciever position. To conclude, you would be a fool to say that Chad Jackson's loss isn't a big deal and that the Pats do not need an upgrade at reciever. The organization regrets putting him out on special teams because now the team probably has to spend a high pick on reciever and sign a reciever in FA when LB's are a real need for the defense.
please go away once and for all

Best note in the whole thread;

Do you know exactly how and when he was injured?

Makes the entire thread rather irrelevant if ARCHIVES can't even point to the ST play he was injured in as the culprit.

Wouldn't you be a little upset if you were Tom Brady knowing that your future go-to-guy at wide reciever may be out for next season?

uhhh; in a word: NO. T.Brady was a little upset that he didn't get a little bit of D in the second half; that he didn't spot the open guy and that he didn't get more time in the pocket. If he was smart he might even be upset that they didn't run it a bit more and shove the ball down Indy's throat. But I don't think he was thinking about NEXT YEAR. He was thinking about a SB THIS YEAR.

And what makes you think that TB thinks of S. J. as his "FUTURE GO TO GUY". Exactly what has he done to earn that title? (other than the highest pick BB has ever wasted on a wideout.) He hasn't even earned the "POSSIBLE #1 WR NEXT YEAR" title yet. I'd be a lot more inclined to give that to Caldwell or Gaffney - at least they showed up.

My take: ARCHIVES is like WAY TOO PERSONALLY INVESTED in one each C Jackson. ( Are you his mother? )

your perception is too distorted by your personal motivation; whatever it is.

I mean just COMMON SENSE If he is one of the fastest guys on the team and he is NOT a STARTER; ISN'T HE THE DEFINITION OF A SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER????? The guy you want to run 40-60 yards and take down their fastest guy?

And who was that who had that great BB quote as a sig for the longest - (paraphrased) " What am I supposed to do with a football player who can't tackle"

"Its funny and pathetic how most fans on this board act as though they know the people in the Pats organization."

It's funny and pathetic that you pretend to know how a NFL franchise to utilize their players because you played high school football.

As someone else mentioned, Jackson played on special teams at Florida. So first rip the Florida AD for allowing this injustice to occur before you lay into the Pats brass.

You are a bitter moron.

1) You played in high school!!! Great. I played in COLLEGE and started both on the o-line AND ST. High school rosters are usually so big that starters don’t play on ST but in the Pros the roster limits FORCE you to play starters on ST.
2) You don’t risk starters on ST? First of all I disagree - last i looked Reggie Bush was returning kicks - but even if you are right – JACKSON was not a starter. He was a back-up so he plays on ST.
3) You knew they were going to draft Maroney! Wonderful. Give me the scoop on who they are going to draft at 24 and 28 this year.
4) Here is the Pats depth chart per Yahoo http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nwe/depthchart

Tell me who is suppose to play on special teams. All the starters can’t per you. Add all the QBs, Maroney, and Jackson. Watson does not start over Graham so can he cover punts and KO? Marquise Hill does not start and I could car less of he gets hurt but I’m not sure he should be on the KO coverage team as he is slow.

So you tell me, Jackson simply sits on the bench, who does all the ST.

No one is happy he got hurt but injuries are part of the game

So was Tom Brady on kickoff duties when he was a rookie? No, playing time is not evaluated based on how well you played on special teams first. The way to earn playing time is doing well in training camp or practice.

Are you ******ed? When was the last time you saw a QB on special teams (aside from a fast one like Smith of the Jets) Nice example though. Good one.

Play-for-play special teams are MORE important than any given offensive/defensive play. The percentage of special teams plays that turn into big, game changing plays (turnovers, big returns, etc.) is higher than any given offensive/defensive play. A smart coach will always play his best special teams players, even if they happen to also be important offensive/defensive players, for this reason.

The reason backup LBs, DBs, and WRs play on special teams is because kick coverage and return blocking demands speed and open-field blocking/tackling ability from all 11 players, unlike base offensive/defensive plays. Thus, the linemens spots are taken by additional LBs, DBs, etc. and thus to get sufficient numbers you have to play players who are backups on base defense.

This is what happens when you play key prospects on special teams. Why is a WR on kickoff duties? I didn't know WR's can tackle. Why play Chad Jackson on special teams when he has had problems recovering from hamstring injuries throughout the season? So the Patriots coaching staff couldn't find anyone else to go out for kickoff duties? Stupid move on their part and this is the end result. Chad Jackson was a 2nd round pick which the Pats traded up for and is expected to be the #1 guy for Tom Brady. Not anymore! Thanks Bill Belicheck for playing him on special teams you jerk. I hated it when I saw Maroney on special teams and believe it is completely unneccesary to play future prospects on special teams. Now Chad Jackson is probably going to be out for season and if he does make a miracle comeback, he still won't play much. The Pats better sign WIDE RECIEVERS in the offseason that are actually legit, not chumps like Caldwell and Gaffney. They just won't get it done. I don't want them to waste another pick on a reciever early in the draft because they wouldn't play him anyways. Way to go again Patriots organization!

You're so wrong on so many counts I won't even begin to go through the list but I will focus on one.,That being playing stars on Special Teams.I'll just give You a "short list " of Coaches that used stars on Special Teams. It includes Bill Walsh,George Seifert,Jimmy Johnson,Bill Parcells,Bill Cowher,Brian Billeck, and Bill Bellichick. All of the coaches that I mentioned have either one or more of something that You'll never have, that being Super Bowl Victories.
You post is pure nonsense.I'm sure You were a real star during your Pop Warner days!

Mr. Archives,

I suggest you seek another Team too root for, since you don't like that JERK of a Coach, his choice of coaching assistants, his coaching methods, or his selections of Free Agents.

It would make you happier, and all of us MUCH happier too, to NOT listen to your Monday Morning Quarterbacking and second guessing rants.

===================================

Smith is a WR, he was a QB in College, now he plays WR and special teams. He has lined up as QB on some trick plays, but has never thrown an NFL pass

Yawn.......Do you know the people in the Pats organization? Do you know Bill Belicheck personally? What about Pioli? I think Deion Branch knows them a little bit better than you do bro. So for you to call Deion Branch a liar is being a little ignorant on your part because you don't know what goes on behind closed doors. Maybe Deion Branch is lying, maybe he isn't. Its funny and pathetic how most fans on this board act as though they know the people in the Pats organization.

Its NOT ignorant for me to calle d Deion Branch a liar. He LIED to everyone. Let me refresh your memory since you clearly don't know wtf you are talking about.

April 2006, Deion Branch says that he is a man of honor and will play out his contract regardless of whether or not he has a contract extension.

May 2006, Branch skips the passing drills. Patriots send a 3rd contract offer and the response from Branch's agent? Either you guarantee not to franchise my client or he holds out. Patriots answer? You client shows up to TC or the offer is off the table.

Result? Branch does NOT honor his contract and holds out until he is traded.

Result? Branch LIED about honor his contract. So, BRANCH is a LIAR.

Real simple. Its too bad that its beyond your comprehension.

Why are you so antagonistic? It just serves no purpose, never mind anything consrtuctive. Brady was never fast enough to play on special teams,Jackson was.. In addition when was the time you ever saw a QB on specials teams? I never have in the NFL and I have been watching for 36 years.

Are you a troll?????????????????????????????????????/

Jackson is the second coming of Hart Lee Dykes anway. If you know who that was.

Actually I do recall a QB playing ST because it was so very unusual. Joe Theiseman was burried deep on the Skins bench and volunteered to play punt returner. HOF coach Joe Gibbs let him do so. Later loud-mouth Joe went to Canada and won a Grey Cup; before coming back to the NFL and the Skins.

But regarding your central thesis, he is the ONLY QB that I ever saw playing ST. You are correct and Archive is perhaps wishing he hadn't..."... got up on the wrong side of the Rock...."

SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT YOUR BLAMING THE COACHING STAFF FOR JACKSONS INJURIES? HAVE YOU TAKEN YOUR PROZAC LATELY? IF NOT ID SUGGEST YOU TO FINISH THAT HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

The guys just an idiot trying to get a rise out of people, he seems to be succeeding. Don't play his game, he'll go away

Actually, no, I wouldn't be upset if I was Brady? Why? Because Brady knows that Jackson was being a team player and doing what he was told to earn reps wiht the team.

Its pretty stupid of you to think otherwise.

Graham may or may not be gone. However, Graham was used less in the passing game than he should have been.

Wow. Ben Watson in his 1st time being a full-time starter and the primary receiver on the team was inconsistent. He's still a TE and got injured.

You seem to be forgetting David Thomas and Garrett Mills. Both showed a lot of receiving ability during TC last year. Unfortunately, was 4th on the depth chart before being IRed.

No, the fool is the moron who thinks that #4 or #5 WRs don't play on special teams. The fool is the moron who thinks that starters shouldn't play on special teams. That fool would be YOU, TheArchives.

Its pretty amazing how people point out to you all the starters that the Patriots have used on special teams, yet you ignored them because they blew a hole bigger than the Grand Canyon in your pathetic argument.

Oh, btw, I highly doubt that the Patriots regret putting Jackson on special teams. Why? Because I'd be willing to bet that the Patriots were planning on spending a pick on a WR AND signing at least one during free agency.

Something that you should really think about. This is FOOTBALL. Its a PHYSICAL game. Players get hurt ALL THE TIME. Catastrophic injuries are something you can not PLAN FOR. They are something that you can not TRAIN for to prevent them from happening. An ACL tear is a CATASTROPHIC injury, if indeed, its a full tear. If its only a partial tear, its no big deal.

You have totally blown out of proportion the entire situation and you've made yourself look to be ignorant and foolish.

Hijack: How goes the mommy business?

Well, I'm not gonna lie, it has had its rough moments, but he's almost 12 weeks old now and settling down a bit. Or maybe I just know what I'm doing more? That possibility seems doubtful. ;)

I never knew how much I'd appreciate a chiropractor, though...

The original poster makes it sound like we lost Jerry Rice in his prime...Chad had shown NOTHING in his rookie year so losing him to me is a pebble on the road, not a speed bump.

A potential Bust and injury prone wr may be the way to describe him at this point, albeit it is too early, but the world has not ended with Chad possibly gone and we will overcome as we always do.

Right now I am more concerned with someone to backup Maroney cause Dillon is all but gone.

This is what happens when you play key prospects on special teams.

As a fellow CJ fan, I normally appreciate your posts, but this seems WAY over the line.

Patriot players contribute in ANY WAY they can and that's exactly what Jackson was doing. The injury is unfortunate, but NO ONE is to blame. It happened, and let's just hope he bounces back as quick as he can.

The only thing that's going to come out of posting crap like this is to give all the Jackson doubters a reason to come out and spew their venom against this kid. These folks love to see 21 y/o kids fail, it makes them feel better about themselves as human beings for some reason, and all you're doing is adding fuel to their fire.

Best coaching staff in football? Did they win the superbowl this year? No. Did they when last year? no. The HAD the best coaching staff when Weiss and Crennel were around, not anymore bro.

this and other comments you make are quite intense, so you obviously feel strongly about this. but, i think you're off base here. of the 32 teams in the NFL, only one has managed to win a Playoff game in each of the last four years and, as far as I can see, it is poised to be competitive well into January next year again. so the Patriots' coaching staff is doing pretty well, and Charlie and Romeo left a while ago.

as for your comments about ST play by position players, I share your frustration when a guy gets injured doing that, but it is part of the game that many have experienced. If there were 63 roster spots, it might be otherwise, but there ain't, and, BTW, Jerry Rice played on ST for the niners at the beginning of his career.

He's probably got you trained to sleep-walk and conduct business, that's why it probably "seems" to be settling down. My youngest sister worked maternity as an RN for years before she and her husband decided they needed to adopt to ensure an arrival (they've since found a doc who understood thyroid imbalance and cleared the way for their little boy). She cried a lot that first week when they got their little girl, she later told Mom she had no idea how much she didn't know. Hang in there, only a lifetime to go, just try to keep notes for grandparent's revenge!

I wish the VA would set me up with a chiropractor, they like the drug route, but then I've got enough damage the last chiropractor avoided the lumbar region and focused on thoracic and cervical adjustments. Chiropractors are the best, the last one I saw found a 12 year old injury the orthopedic specialists completely missed, despite numerous opportunities.

I agree. I had a terrible back problem about 20 years ago +/- that had me flat on my back for three weeks. I found a therapist in, I think, Walpole, who combined Chiropractics and Physical Therapy and worked wonders on my lower back over several months. The problem has recurred a few times over the years, but never as severely and always for short periods and I still credit that person.

Original poster is flat out wrong. If we didn't use starters on special teams, we would not have won the 01 super bowl, and maybe not the 03 one either.
