Where on Earth was it? Too few QB pressures and with Jones out and the need to play the safeties back to defend Smith/Boldin/Jones...how do we confuse and pressure Flacco?

    This worries me

Not really worried about the running game though.

    Thoughts?

    Zone blitz?

Drop Ninkovich into coverage and have Hightower and/or Spikes bring the heat.

Mix in some everyone standing up moving around so he doesn't know who will come and who will drop, from there mix in 3 man rush and the occasional jailbreak.

I thought Ninko, Scott, and Francis did a pretty good job last night in Jones' absence.

    Not in the pass rush.

Give the Texans o-line some credit. They did a solid job in pass protection.

The Patriots had a decent pass rush to my eye... was not great, but they were holding the Texans to 13 points before they went to the prevent/vanilla zone scheme in the fourth quarter.

Texans O-line well-represented on Pro Bowl roster

"The 2013 Pro Bowl roster has a heavy Texans presence on the offensive line, as three Houston linemen were selected to the NFL's annual all-star game on Wednesday."

Maybe that had something to do with it?

    Pass rush is a two-component factor.... your D-line vs. the opponent's O-line.

If you have a stout O-line like the Texans, results can be misleading.

There was plenty of pressure. Schaub was letting go of the ball sooner than he wanted, and that's all we need. We blitzed and gave up the underneath for Schaub to complete for a 5 yard gain and a punt. That's all we need and far more than we have had for the last 5 years.

Much of the second half was played in prevent fashion.

What the game plan seemed to be was to neutralize the damage done by Foster, and let the DB's take care of the rest... Foster has been playing well.

This team held them to 3 points after that disasterous opening kick off, that was significant..

Towards the end they were playing prevent, and when they do that lots of yards are given up.. all that matters is the score and that we won.

Other than the Pats, they are the best pass protection unit in the NFL left in the playoffs. Schaub typically was not camped out looking for a receiver. The pocket did collapse, and Schaub was hurried. The fact he was quick to unload on plays means he was feeling the pressure.

Regardless of the mixed pass rush performance from yesterday, they need to devise a scheme to put the heat on Flacco. For one, Torrey Smith will get open if Flacco can give him the time. For two, B rate QBs like Flacco, Romo and Schuab can look like top tier HOF's if they have no one in their face.

That's what I felt, we didn't hit Shaub that much but it was clearly enough to rattle him with the exception of the first drive, I think that was just jitters. Next week we'll hopefully get more pressure against a lesser OL.

Yes, there were several rushed throws when we put the heat on. I didn't have an issue with the pass rush and I'm not reading much into their garbage time yards/points.

I think we need to dictate the pace and the D can do that. I just don't want Flacco sitting back and lobbing passes to Smith all day.

They just need to have some well timed blitzes because Rice will be a focal point for the LBs

In fact Houston really only scored 3 points (and that off a 95 yard return) against the normal NE defense... all the other scores were against a prevent type defense at the end of the first half and the 4th quarter after a big lead.

God there has to be a better way to preserve a lead. For one, there has to be more intensity and clarity on offense---like get a few lousy first downs and the game is in your pocket... there is no downfield, only 10 yards to victory.
