Yeah, I don't get Bill at all for saying that.
Just to show how untrustworthy that quote is, Bill left the Jets, and a year later he was coaching the Cowboys. That's how he rolls.
Unless there was something truly screwed up in the Kraft-Parcells relationship that we don't know about, the keys were taken away from Parcells AFTER he refused to sign up for an extension.
As I remember it, Parcells had a clause in his contract that forced him to coach the Patriots have five years, or else he could leave with a buyout. After the Patriots went 5-11, Parcells approached Kraft and asked him to rework the contract by removing the extra year and the buyout clause. Kraft did so, but only while insisting that Parcells could not move on to coach another NFL team.
After the change was made, Parcells chafed under the new contract and he word is, he started playing footsie with the Jets.
That's when Kraft screwed him on the groceries, but Kraft had no choice at that point. What else could he do? Parcells just wanted to avoid the buyout. He likes his money, but he got annoyed when he realized that the contract change meant Kraft could no longer trust him with the long-term future of the franchise.
