Panel clears them of course, but the ethics office not so much. Term limits please. Term limits, and a law that quadruples the punishment for crimes committed by elected officials.

Panel Clears 7 Lawmakers in Lobbying Scandal

WASHINGTON — The House ethics committee cleared seven members of Congress on Friday of official charges of wrongdoing in a lobbying scandal despite a separate, independent investigation that cast a harsh spotlight on the pay-to-play culture in Washington.

In a harshly worded report that closed out its inquiry into the charges, the Office of Congressional Ethics — created in 2008 as an independent, professionally staffed monitor of internal ethics questions — found that private contractors who received millions of dollars in defense industry earmarks from the seven lawmakers generally believed that their political contributions to the members facilitated the financing their companies received.

As much as I agree, I believe that this is a constitutional issue.. it may be a good time to start thinking about an amendment.
