Over or under they use half their picks on players.

we are not the jets

Here's how I'd like to see the picks used:

The first 5 (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a) spent on C, G, DE/OLB, DE/OLB, G/C in any order depending on who's where.

3b - trade into next year for a 2nd rounder.
4a - RB
4b - trade into next year for a 3rd rounder

The rest of the picks look for OT,DE/OLB,HB, S in any order.

So basically I'd like all but 2 picks to be used. Not even going to try to guess how many will be

Of the first six picks, I expect probably 1-2 to be traded to next year, and maybe one more used to trade up. At least half should be used to address holes in the roster, and of the remainder of the picks I think most will be used.

If I had to guess . . .

17 as is
28 slight trade down, maybe even to top of second round
33 sold to the highest bidder, presumably for a later 2nd + something in 2012
60 as is
74 as is or maybe up to catch a falling player
92 traded straight up for a 2012 2

I think this is the year where BB unloads, he's been wheeling and dealing for years....and now it's time.

When have we ever traded more than half of the draft picks?

I seem to recall an article summarizing it as 25 trade-downs and 15 trade-ups under BB, so it's not like it's a huge disparity of 5- or 6-to-1 like you need to do to unload more than half of the picks.

The biggest trade-out must have been 2007 with two picks for Wes, 1 for Randy, and maybe a future pick acquired in a trade as well, but that was in part due to that draft class SUCKING.

We will definitely use over half our picks, we just won't use them all at their current spots.

2007: SEA 1 for Meriweather
NE 1 traded to SF for 2008 1 and 2007 4
NE 2 (and 7) traded to MIA for Welkah
NE 3 traded to OAK for 2008 3 and 2007 7
SF 4 traded to OAK for Moss

Besides Meriweather we also drafted:

4 Kareem Brown, DL, Miami
5 Clint Oldenburg, OL, Colorado State
6 Justin Rogers, DE, SMU
6 Mike Richardson, CB, Notre Dame
6 Justise Hairston, RB, CCSU
6 Corey Hilliard, OT, Oklahoma State
7 Oscar Lua, ILB, USC
7 Mike Elgin, C, Iowa

So in the year that we traded 5 picks away in a craptastic draft we still made 9 picks, mostly late, to take flyers on guys who didn't pan out

So I'd still maintain that there is a 0% chance that we trade a MAJORITY of our picks his year. 1 or 2? Maybe.

I voted over, but do the picks have to be made in the same spot? like if we have a 2 and swap it for another 2 and something next year and the 2 we got we use to pick does that count?

I've gone crosseyed.

I don't get the point of this post. Considering our recent track record of accumulating extra picks, it's never a question of if we'll use half the draft picks, but rather if we'll draft MORE guys than the number of picks we start with.

In 2010, we went into the draft with 12 picks. We still made 12 picks, trading 1 into 2011.

In 2009, we went into the draft with 11 picks. We actually made 12 picks while still trading 2 into 2010.

In 2008, we went into the draft with 8 picks. We made 7 picks while trading 1 into 2009.

So yeah, I think we'll use half our picks.
