The Senate works fine. A large (not small) minority SHOULD be able to obstruct bills, that's what slows down overly partisan crap like the current bill. 40 is NOT a small minority.

A straight majority rules is questionable at best because you can see saw between small majorities. You need some semblance of doing things in a thoughtful manner, not pushing everything you can through before you lose the majority and it is all undone. Not to mention that the majority of people right now don't like the health care bill so the majority is actually getting stomped upon.

Believe me, the majority is ruling. But that doesn't mean they get everything they want.

    Supposed, supposed, not suppose.

Anyway, the Majority Rules does not equal the Majority Gets Everything it Wants. If you don't think the Dems are ruling right now you aren't paying attention.

Unfortunately the article is about the obstructionism of the right, then they say that the system is broken.. they are equally responsible for breaking it.. am sure you know it, but here is a reminder..

One thing you're forgetting Flex is that our system of "Checks & Balances" is the very essence of our democracy. It's importance stands FAR above "Majority Rules". So tell us how we can have checks & balances when we have a president and both houses of congress being ruled by a single party?

Remember, Checks and balances is ALWAYS more important than majority rules.

Same thing the right is saying was said by the left four years ago when they were in the minority. New group in power, same argument over again.

The Senate was created with the whole intent of the majority NOT getting what they want all the time. The rules were set up to force the majority to hear what the minority had to say before they could force their bills over the objections of the minority. That was the intent of the equal representation despite size, that was the intent of the 3/5ths requirement to end all discussion on bills.
