If you want to check out what the flag code says, there are other sources but thought this reference would make everyone happy and that is the goal..

For many years Republicans have been beating up what the flag stands for, but they have always shown respect for that piece of fabric. Now, apparently, Bush has even given up that charade.

If that had been Obama, this thread would have been lit up with outrage.

Actually Patters .. the charade is the Presidential candidate who was practically forced to wear flag symbolism. His waning poll numbers are due to the public catching on to his anti-Americanism socialistic philosophies. We may not be the best or the perfect country ... but many on the right appreciate it more than thos on the left.

It's a known fact that people living in the red states display the flag far more than people living in blue states ... most of these people have pride in their country as opposed to those who constantly find reasons to be embarressed.

The flag is a fine symbol for people who perceive themselves under threat, which I think is a trait of Republicans, who are more likely than Democrats to fear Arabs, Muslims, blacks, gays, etc., and believe that a terrorist lurks around every corner. After 9/11, I supported the flag as much as any good Republican because for a few weeks because I thought we were in danger, and the flag symbolized that we are all one. But, in general I think pledging allegiance to a piece of fabric is absurd because it times of peace it tend to stand for blind loyalty and nationalism, while our loyalties should always be to those values imbued in us by our families and American culture in which we live.

I proudly display a flag on my house everyday ... and oh BTW the black family across the street they display theirs. Also, the lesbian couple whom I have mentioned here before (they are white and they adopt black children) .. they display theirs also.

It's all about pride for your country .. an imperfect country but our country nontheless ... whom many have died for. The flag symbolizes our devotion to our country and our respect to those that have died preserving our freedom.

You're brainwashed Patters .. you need to get out of your house more often.

that little hand held flag does not fall under the proper flag display guidlines. It is like wearing a flag print shirt. it does not follw the guidlines. The smallest flag that falls under the proper display guideline is the 6 inch by 9 inch flag without fringe. This flag is authorizedfor display on government automobiles of general officers and members of the Senior Executive Services

so, as i am pretty much disgusted with Bush as president, he did nothing wrong with the flag last night.

The present flag that will be replaced when Obama becomes President has already been replaced on the tail of his airplane.

    This plane once had a
United States flag in the same spot.

Hard to believe that you can rationalize this the POTUS to act this bored at a international event and play with a flag is a very big deal, despite the size.I would expect a certain amount of decorum and to set an example, this is neither..

Remember the shytstorm about Obama not wearing a flag lapel in his suit coat??

The right wing has largely owned the flag for years. They have made the flag into a symbol of militaristic nationalism. That does not mean there are not many people like you who display the flag for all the right reasons, but I generally associate the flag with right wing intolerance, and I do that because of incidents I witnessed as a child during the Vietnam war protest era.

nothing he does amazes me any more. and come on...that opening ceremony was like 4 hours long, humid as hell, and smoggy. I would find it hard to stay interested too if i had to watch 4 hours of countries with only 1, 2, 3 athletes march in.
