Do you think that people should whine about OT threads? Or, do you think they should shut up and ignore them unless they are pornographic or political?

I think they should shut up and ignore them. I do however find it ironic because weren't you one of the people that originally had such a big problem with them in the first place?

    re

I think we should ignore OT threads, unless it's an OT thread about the Red Sox, in which case we should whine and complain over and over again until the thread is moved =)

    Just playing.

Political- absolutley and still will. Red Sox- I was just screwing around with those.

I don't think that you will find any others that I have a problem with.

It's so stupid that people post big Red Sox news, a huge team with tons of history in Boston, and then posters say get it outta here thats trash and complain about it. Shut your mouth and accept it, the Red Sox are a part of life.

I hope you won't take too much offense at this, but I kind of wonder how old you and Keegs are.

It would be helpful if you quoted or named the person who you addressed the question to. We know that you are asking Keegs but who is the other?

Nobody whines .... then what .... infestation of off topic threads?

I have been here long enough to remember when just good football
was talked about and set this board above others.

No whinners and this board will turn into a free for all and corrupt
some thing that was once good.

The last thing I want to do is complain but I fight for keeping this
board the way I remember it. Off seaon they say .... that's why.
    I don't buy it totally.

There is a GENERAL forum for a lot of stuff that gets posted. Go there and
post it and respect what this board use to be about ... football.

There are a lot of new users on the board and they don't remember the way
    it was.

If you you just ignor ... just ignor ... then one day you'll have a board
with a lot of good interesting OFF topic stuff.
But you just may end up wondering why there are no guys left who
really want to talk football. Maybe because they driffed off to boards that
do talk football and leave the general stuff to other boards.

So just ignor but don't b i t c h when the board is full of garbage.

    I'm for b i t c h i n g to keep the quality of this board.

I try ignoring junk threads but how do you ignor a thread without reading
to know you need to ignor it?

Many posters don't even use the OT indicator anymore. Maybe because they
really don't know it's off topic because everyone is so into the ignoring bit.

If I were a constant offender of posting OT threads, I wouldn't mind if a
moderator private emailed me and told me about it.

Now I'm not sying this board has a majority of OT stuff. Not by any means.
But there is enough to be concerned that it might get significant to be
    too disruptive.

Usually if someone does whine ... the topics become better for awhile.
So whining here is a good thing.

I am sorry to all that I whine. I can't help it I am a fan of all New England sports teams. Whining is the way I was reared. It is what a native New Englander loves to do when we are down. lol.

    "Waaaaaaah....waaaaaah..."

I NEVER post off topic threads

I could care less who does or how many they put up

It's a message board....people have a need to communicate....when there's lull periods in Patriots news, some people will throw out anything just to get a response

all this gnashing of teeth and fretting like scary Marys over the future of this meassage board is ridiculous...as soon as camp opens there will be tons of "Branch tweaked his pinkie finger!!!! Bad news!!!" posts to go around.

Patsfans.com has been around a long long time and it will continue as long as Ian and the boys want to keep it going...so relax and enjoy it for what it is....and ,as Digger points out, if you want to whine about it, whine away...that's your right.

It's not that whining is the problem, we all have the right to disagree with each other and we often do.... BUT it is a problem when posters REPEATEDLY hijack threads with the intention of deliberately causing trouble or personally attacking others. Worse still is when these people lie in wait to immeadiately ambush other posters that dissent!

I just don't get the attitude of people around here! I don't have any interest in reading a lot of threads on this board, but having said that I don't hijack them and ruin everyone else's good time. The problem here is when people pull out the same tired act over and over and over again!

Why is it considered "whining" when someone points out that there are different forums on this messageboard for specific categories of subject matter? Ian constructed it that way for a reason. Why not post appropriately and leave it at that? It's simple logic and common sense to make use of services as they were intended. Simple, and respectful of others using preferred forums who would rather not be inconvenienced and distracted by silly off-topic threads. For instance, if you want to know what others think of Barry Manilow vs. Ozzy Osbourne, why not post in the General Talk forum, where it would be on topic? The more that OT threads are tolerated in the football forum, the more they're going to occur and compete for first-page space with football threads. It's obvious, Nut, that you are pushing this issue because of my objections to OT threads in the football forum via your anxious desire to bring attention to yourself. The ultimate arbiter will be Ian, of course, and however he chooses to deal or not deal with this is fine by me. YOUR choice to ignore the implied guidelines for use of this messageboard ultimately boils down to a matter between you and Ian as well. (I know he has relocated at least one of your prior OT threads to date.) I would think that since he's hoping to sell ads for this site, advertisers might wonder about a football forum carrying threads on Godzilla and Rambo; something to consider as well. So go ahead and have a ball posting childish OT nonsense. One way or another, it'll all run its course.

BG, none of this would occur if people simply posted subject matter WHERE IT IS INTENDED TO BE POSTED! Why can't you understand that Ian built different forums into this messageboard for a reason? It INCONVENIENCES and DISTRACTS people to have to scroll past OT threads to get to what they want to read. A forum page contains a certain number of threads, and when a page has several OT threads it dilutes the forum's intended purpose.

Because this thread and the poll are a classic case of a slanted question. "Have you stopped beating your wife?"

The thread was started by someone with an agenda. Ignore him. Speak up if a thread here is offensive or inappropriate.
