has it really hit any of you as yet? Seriously, did any of us think Welker would put up 112 receptions, 1,175 yards, and 8 TD's this season? Remember, Branch's best statistical season had him 2 yards short of 1,000, and he was NE's No. 1 receiver that year. His high in receiving TD's was only 5, and Welker's 8 TD's is higher than any other WR Brady has thrown to not named Randy Moss.

Yea, a lot of us thought he was going to be good, and could possibly be like having a younger Troy Brown, but did any of us think he would put up those numbers, especially his first year in the system? Frankly, I thought Moss would have 1,100-1,200 yards, but I didn't expect Welker to come just 25 yards short of 1,200. Really, it's almost insane to think about, especially since Moss put up his numbers (98 receptions, 1,493 yards, and 23 TD's), too.

I had no idea until I read Welker got a vote for AP Offensive Player of the Year. Then I saw.

Funny thing is, we'd of been going nuts if that were Moss's numbers. It really is amazing folks....

Welker was worth every penny and pick. Wonder if he could do any better than this or if this is his best. He set the bar high for 2008, but I hope he can bring his ability to the playoffs first.

It's not that surprising when you consider the Pats throw the ball on the vast majority of the offensive plays.

He's the perfect compliment Moss...any time Moss is double covered, Welker is a good bet to exploit it. A great 1-2 punch.

I can't see what the big deal is Wes Welker .....

as a Dolphin 96 catches for 1121 yards 1 TD
as a Patriot 112 catches for 1175 yards 8 TDs

    :)

Not to brag. Correction, yes, I'm bragging.

Last year there were two receivers that I was obsessed with getting. First, whenever we played the Dolphins, I would constantly harp to my dad to the point of annoyance about Wes Welker and how he could improve the Patriots because a guy like that would be a perfect match for Brady. I was openly rooting for Welker against us (in a way) just because I was in awe of his intangibles, despite having Joey Harrington on the other side of the line.

The other guy, you may have guessed, was the one and only Randy Moss. Of course, with him I can't take that much credit because we all knew what he is about.

So, no I am not that surprised that he had such a spectacular season, and I won't be surprised if he eclipses it next year.

Come on, sanvara. You need to bring better stuff than that if you're going to stay on the roster here.

586 pass attempts, 451 rushes: 56.5% pass, 43.5% rush. And don't forget Welker isn't on the field for every snap. Here's a better indicator of how useful Welker was: about 20% of the snaps that Welker's on the field result in Brady passing to him.

My prediction for the '08 season:
128 catches for 1225 yards and 15 TDs

Hello Aqwaaah the prognosticator, I know you're out there reading this. Early, before the season started you put you're hand on you're forehead, closed you're eyes, went hmmmm and said that Welker wouldn't have 3 td's all year, maybe 30-40 catches(it might have even been lower). That the fins didn't want him because he was just an average wr compared to Chambers and hahaha Ginn. Well Mr. Guru...... eeehn, wrong again. BTW I don't think you Ever got anything right in all you're prognostications.

Is 58% the VAST MAJORITY? 633 (pass attempts + sacks) 451 rushing attempts. I'll admit it's a majority, but I think most people would guess it's a lot more than 58%.

Sorry, I made my post before I saw this one. I added in sacks as well.

I actually did think he would thrive in the Pats system and many of us here did too.

In my Fantasy Football League here in Northern VA, I am the Pats homer.
My pick of Welker in the 10th round of my draft was greeted with "who?"
Those that did know him said "if you want him, you've got him.."

I stated that he would catch a ton of balls this year because of the attention paid to Moss and Stallworth.

Of course, I also picked up Brady in 2001 after Drew went down and was thought to be the ultimate homer for that one too. But anyone who watched Brady in the preseason of 2001 could see the confidence and decisiveness he had.

I'm looking forward to watching Brady to Welker for years to come.

When we signed him alot of people were banging on about how he will be perfect for Brady and our system so I expected something. I knew he was a good reciever but I'd be lying if I said I knew he'd do well here so I waited, just like the rest of us to see what happened with our new recievers and they've been rampant and to be honest with you, I actualy like Welker the most.

He's been brilliant this year, outstanding and it really is a shame he's not going the popularity bowl from his point of view.

What type of bull sh!t argument is that? Somebody still has to get open and catch the f'kin thing.

I'd say that's about 30 catches higher than the most generous predictions... but in hindsight its hardly surprising.

Moss had consistent double teams all season. If not for Moss, Welker would have likely been double teamed consistently if he came close to that sort of production, and there'd be no way he'd have 112 passes.

That makes Troy's accomplishment all the more impressive in 2001 as he didn't have someone like Moss keeping guys off his back.

If Moss isn't back next season and Stallworth can't quickly prove that he's just as dangerous, Welker's production drops significantly.
