Watching NECN and the have found and removed (and in some cases detonated) several pipe bombs in the areas from the Longfellow Bridge over to the NE Medical Center. Not sure how they came upon them although the one at Tufts NE was not called in but rather found by an employee. They are still apparently searching in the Storrow Drive area.

They are now looking into the possibility that this could be an internet based college prank. If that's the case these idiots will be finishing their educations at a Federal facility.

Fox News, CNN, MSNBC all have it.

They are circuit-board figures with light-up characters from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, giving the finger.

    Boston.com:

BREAKING NEWS: Turner Broadcasting is expected to issue an apology for causing today's series of bomb scares throughout Boston. A statement emailed to the Globe from Turner Broadcasting said: "The 'packages' in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger. They are part of an outdoor marketing campaign in 10 cities in support of Adult Swim’s animated television show Aqua Teen Hunger Force. They have been in place for two to three weeks in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Austin, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. Parent company Turner Broadcasting is in contact with local and federal law enforcement on the exact locations of the billboards. We regret that they were mistakenly thought to pose any danger." Whoever eventually is charged
will have to pay Alan Dershowitz
quite a fee to convince a jury
that this is just innocent - if misguided - symbolic free speech.

This is complete and ignorant stupidity on the part of Menino and many others. When the phrase "terrorism" enters their brain they check all common sense at the door. This was a huge overreaction, and they are acting indignant so they look less foolish.

Bruce Schneier (a brilliant man where it comes to security and quantifying risks, his blog is highly recommended): http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/08/what_the_terror.html
I'd like everyone to take a deep breath and listen for a minute.

The point of terrorism is to cause terror, sometimes to further a political goal and sometimes out of sheer hatred. The people terrorists kill are not the targets; they are collateral damage. And blowing up planes, trains, markets or buses is not the goal; those are just tactics. The real targets of terrorism are the rest of us: the billions of us who are not killed but are terrorized because of the killing. The real point of terrorism is not the act itself, but our reaction to the act.

And we're doing exactly what the terrorists want.

What were they thinking??? I wonder.... Why didn't they think that that may happen??? I mean under bridges and all over...

And what is even WORSE is that once this broke early in the AM why didn't someone from Turner or Interferernce or ANYONE who knew about this step up to the plate and alert authorities to this...Why did they allow authorities hours and NOT do anything???
ha..ha..ha... NOT very funny...guerilla art can be very interesting..

but when it causes a panic and people sit on their hands..KNOWING this "threat" is nothing and DO NOTHING to calm fears...
I think many in the boardroom might be paying big time for this...

Great climate we live in. People see a friggin' lightboard and launch a full-scale terror response. Cory Lidle crashes into an apartment building and news stations immediately go the terrorist route. Space Shuttle Columbia blows up, and people are certain that terrorists did it with a surface-to-air missile. People see a Muslim guy drop and pray in a public place and they anticipate a terrorist attack. So on and so on and so on...

It's becoming very easy to laugh at us as a country.

    That sucks.

Chad Jackson gets a pass for this, it's only his first year.

I do agree that this conclusively shows that Josh McDaniels is out of his league.

Firstly...I don't know where you are from..but my guess is NOT Boston or New York...If you lived here and making comments like that you are pretty numb.. but I think you are from somewhere where terrorism has NOT touched or some place where no one would bother..
Firstly, 911 and terrorism is very real in Boston and NY..many people forget that the planes originated in Boston..terrorism and that threat is VERY alive in the air...Given that and El Empoerer Bush's pushing panic and fear mongering all over the place, is it no wonder that panic spread yesterday.
"People see a friggin' lightboard and launch a full-scale terror response."...actually false..a person saw it and called in authorities and THEY decided it was important enough to warrant a response..so if you wish to blame someone on that TALK to the bomb squad and police officials about overreacting.
I don't disagree that there are over responses at times..and what happened in that plane because Mullims were praying WAS absurd!!! But they had been cleared by the FBI BEFORE..But how has this atmosphere been created?? What can be done??
I wonder WHY this ad agency and the execs who knew about this did not notify the city WHEN they knew it was an issue?? It was all over the news at 10 AM and they waited hours and hours and were FORCED to come clean ONLY after it was known. Think how this COULD have been nipped in teh bud at 10 AM IF they had taken responmsibility early??? I really hope there's a million dollar check being written to the City of Boston from these idiots who thought this up and said it was OK.

Oh give it up. They placed those things all over - in 11 different cities - and they were there for a week. Look at the political forum for insight to this.

I was living right outside of washington on 9/11 ... yes it was scary, but they don't over react to a cartoon.

Wow, this whole thing is hysterical. It went from pipe bombs to little digital men flashing the FU sign. Pretty much everyone from the person who first reported it to the Boston police all of the way up to the feds should be ashamed right now because they are now the laughing stock of the world.

    Fixit:

    - was born, raised, and lived in N. Attleboro, MA until he was 25

    - has resided in NY since

    - was a member of the NY Air National Guard (8 years) until last year

    - watched the second tower fall on live TV and immediately left work to pack his crap for deployment

    - was activated for two years immediately following 9/11

    - spent nine months doing Presidential Security at Andrew AFB in D.C. during that time...as an aside, the Beltway Sniper was shooting people all around that place, too

    - realizes that who you are or where you come from is irrelevant, because the current climate of fear is forkin' ridiculous

    - would rather be blown up than live a life scared of his own shadow

Other than that, though, you were right on the money about me. That's a spectacular talent you have.
