I will be the last one to say Holmes is an angel or even a good guy, sometimes people need a fresh start, I think Holmes deserves one the same as anybody.

But geez guy's, all this hub bub over an Ipod, I just don't see it.

I think all the hub bub is concerning his dumbass attitude --- I didn't see any criticisms of the actual ipod.

plus, we like to make fun of the jets.

I guess it depends on how you use your iPod.

You don't get a fresh start until you wipe the slate clean over your past transgressions, his slate hasn't been cleaned yet and he already finds a way of screwing up.

Week five his slate clears up, until then he should have been on pins and needles acting better than a saint- not getting into a huff over a freaking IPod.

Police in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania has issued a statement confirming that Jets receiver Santonio Holmes was not removed from a flight at Pittsburgh International Airport on Thursday night. Here's the full text: "As previously reported, Santanio Holmes was NOT removed from any airplane (4/29/2010). He was asked to remove his Ipod (at one point), in which he complied. There's no further information to report."

Apologies can, no doubt, be sent to Santonio care of the New York Jets.

From whom?

Yeah, they escort at least 10 passengers off the plane every flight I have been on. Sorry, it isn't a huge deal, but the league might think it is a significant enough deal especially if he was found to be beligerant because he was drunk (just throwing out the worst case scenario). I have been on plenty of flights and I have personally never seen anyone escorted off the plane because of any disciplinary reasons. It seems like Holmes was being an arse.

United 1k flyer (all domestic) -- 3 years in a row -- close to 70 segments a year. I have never seen anyone escorted off a flight before. Not once. The announcement is perfectly clear, 'turn off all electronic devices'. Having an Ipod still on is not a BFD. That he would continue to ignore directives to turn it off is a BFD. It's a BFD to flyers like me who need to get to their destination as quickly as possible. It's a BFD to miss a take off slot and possibly have to wait for the next take off slot because some d!psh!+ thinks what he wants is more important than everyone else on the plane. Finally it is BFD to think of this guys track record, think about him knowing he is under scrutiny, and to still cause this kind of inane disturbance indicates this guy is a problem waiting to happen. (EDIT - Or just be uncooperative but nit actually taken off the flight :) )

iGate is going to tear the franchise apart.

Santonio Holmes is a mental midget ... and that's an insult to stupid little people. I lost what little respect I had for him after that spectacular Super Bowl winning catch, when he cheapened the moment by mimicking LeBron James' talcum powder toss. Just totally asinine.

Hey, I'm a fellow 1Ker. All int'l or code shares on * Alliance flights in Asia like SQ and TG.

Just thought everyone would want to know. :D

I fly nearly every week and have never seen anyone escorted off an airplane in any country.

Watch Tubby Wrecks go boom...it'll be a beautiful story.

*A? SQ and TG? A fellow FTer too? .... I've heard SQ rocks! As a domestic only (in regards to *A) UA :yeahthat: CO :yeahthat: US :enranged:. All out of SWU but 5 out of 6 on UDU.

I have never even seen an "incident" before where someone wouldn't shut off their electronic device. Semi frequently I see a second/individual request after the general request to turn off all electronic devices.....that's about it.

More recent media reports confirm that what happened is that Holmes was asked to turn off his ipod and that he did so when asked, but left the ear buds in and fell asleep or appeared to fall asleep. The flight attendant interpreted the presence of the ear buds in his ears as refusal to comply. When confronted, Holmes handed the ear buds to the attendant or another passenger, who verified that there was no sound coming out. Thus, the police report that he had "complied."

I guess there are several lessons here:

Flight Attendants post 911 have a lot of leeway in assessing passenger behavior, so it's a good idea to bend over backwards not only to comply but also to appear to comply with what they ask.

No one is going to cut Santonio Holmes a millimeter of slack or give him the benefit of the doubt, given his history, and he's going to have to learn to live with that.

It's probably not a bad idea to get all the facts before going after someone, even someone as moronic as Holmes.

(As a Frequent Flyer, on the subject of turning off all electronic devices on takeoff and landing: it's annoying since most devices don't present a hazard, but flight attendants can't be expected to be distinguishing devices that do present a hazard from those that don't when they have a couple hundred passengers. Just obey them, it's only ten minutes.)

Although it does look like this is a non-story, I still think it is strange that there is police report at all if he complied with the flight attendant's request. I think there may be more to this story than the police are reporting or Holmes is admitting to. Even if there is more to it, it might not be that bad. But the flight attendant's story could be very different and the police decided to just accept Holmes' explaination rather than get bogged down with a lot of paper work for a he said/she said situation.

this is obviously a cover up.

holmes endangered the lives of hundreds, some of whom were probably children --- that's the story and I'm not backing off it.

Let's not go that far. I'm no conspiracy theorist, but I do believe in the laziness of the police when it comes to filling out reports especially when there is nothing that will happen if they did.

yes..I agree...c'mon now.... if you REALLY want to see harm on an airline flight, just watch Wrecks attack the stewardess station and rifle through the chips and nuts compartment, stuffing hundreds of little packages in his shorts and pockets...
