Great DC but lousy head coach.

They are rah rah male cheerleader types on the sidelines

He was still RAH RAH'ing on the sideline. Kind of funny. He hasn't changed a bit. Hopefully his luck will with the Seahawks.

Re: Rex Ryan is A Fatter, More Profane Version of Pete Carroll

I don't think Carroll has ever lost an opener for that matter - not that it has impacted his caliber as a coach.

I know what Big Mike is saying - Rex the Hutt Ryan is a lot of hot air, a bombastic cheerleader - but different from Carroll I don't think his players actually appreciate Ryan's form of bravado and enthusiasm... quite the contrary I think the Jets know that they've been set up to fail with their coach guaranteeing a Super Bowl appearance.

Sure, it's all because Woody Johnson wanted Ryan to sell PSLs in the new stadium, but the players don't care all that much about that. They know they're putting a target on their back all but proclaiming them Champions before they've won a thing, having backed into the playoffs as a defacto 8-8 team last year.

Ultimately, when coaching the Patriots, the players lost confidence in Pete Caroll and stopped listening to him.

Starting a "Super Bowl" season with unrealistic expectations and an 0-2 record might have a similar impact on the Jets players, if it hasn't already.

I will give Ryan credit that he is a great defensive mind. But he is the worst head coach for the development of Sanchez. He has put so much pressure on this guy by yapping his mouth when expectations shouldn't be Super Bowl or bust. This guy willnever develop and he will be another David Carr with unrealistic expectations and no one giving him the proper time to develop (although Carr's problem was they threw him in an offense without any receivers or o-line).

To be fair, Sanchez hasn't exactly shrugged off the pressure and the bravado either. If anything, he's indulged it.

Watching Hard Knocks, it seemed pretty clear that he was overwhelmed by it and put on a false bravado to mask it. But you could see that Matt Cavanaugh and Brian Shottenheimer saw it (most notably the famous scene where Cavanaugh tried to lecture Sanchez about confidence and Sanchez never looked him in the eye and fiddled with his gym bag). I think Sexy Rex was too busy gushing over his new FB to see it.

I don't buy this need time to develop. There are plenty of other QBs that needed no time to develop and still performed (ie Rothlesberger, Manning). You either have it or you don't. The question is how long will the Jets take to find out if Sanchize has it?

Re: Rex Ryan is A Fatter, More Profane Version of Pete Carroll

Some QBs can make immediate or near immediate impacts and others take 2-4 years to develop (Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees). Sanchez had minimal experience in college and is a guy who needs time to develop. He may never be a great or even good QB, but I think in his current situation he is going to be a bust unless Sexy Rexy changes his approach.

Even Eli Manning didn't have the expectations and pressure in the NY market and the Giants dominate over the Jets in the media and fans. The talk on the sports radio and in the media is that Sanchez and the offense are going to make this Super Bowl team a loser.

Well, tonight was a pleasant surprise then. Anyone who did get to see the show aren't actually surprised that this team would be so undisciplined and their offense would be so GAod-awful.

BTW, if you get a chance to see it on On Demand, Netflix, or whatever. I suggest you do. It is compelling television. And after tonight, you can look back and see how badly Rex's "let's just have fun" approach killed the team tonight.

Roethlisberger came into a pretty good offensive situation with a good line, good receivers and a very good running game.

Manning came into a pretty good offensive situation with a good line, good receivers and a very good running game.

Carr came into a horrible offensive situation with a horrible line, no receivers and no running game.

Sanchez came into an average offensive situation with an average line, average receivers and a good running game.

Ryan reminds me more of Charlie Weis. Very similar in body size, but more importantly the arrogance and bragging sets the stage for their own demise. All coaches are judged by how they meet expectations, and to raise the expectations on yourself, especially with no track record as a head coach is suicidal, though fun to watch. :)

I agree with that. My point is just because sanchez is starting right away doesn't mean that's going to set him back 5 years in his development. If anything the experience will expedite his potential even if it doesn't look pretty to begin with. The way you rate his development compared to the other QBs in the league is how he improves from game to game. This game was not a good start.

And there are plenty of QBs who did need time to develope it (Rodgers, Eli, etc)
