I've gotten a few of these and I can't shut this idiot down, but these e-mails are being sent out:

I'm assuming you guys know it's not being sent from us in the event you've gotten one, but if you do get one please delete it. Some Vietnamese idiot is sending these (their server is in Vietnam) and I'm not having any luck having him shut down so far. Needless to say just wanted to make people aware so no one runs that file that they're prompting for.

I get similar crap all the time. Real websites will use your name, and not "dear PatsFan", etc.

While there's a tech-ish thread up; Is the redirect popup ad I'm getting here an actual ad, or is it spyware?

Ian - too bad you don't know a good hacker who could send their server a "present" that would shut them down for good..

What redirect popup are you getting? They're disabled - so you shouldn't be getting one, unless you "mouseover" one of the 728x90's that are running something I'm unaware of.

I occasionally get pop ups on here, but I forget what.
I'll post in here next time I see one.

they're some little obnoxious one that centers itself in the screen.

It's definitely not a mouseover, the part that had me thinking it was an actual ad was the fact that I was getting it on both my iPhone and my PC at home and as far as I know there isn't spyware developed for the iPhone yet. Both seem to happen when I surf this site, but not others.

I don't exactly remember what it is, I'll take a screen shot next time it rears its head.

I use Firefox as well, and it's not a popup it's a redirect, It may have been a mouse over over the add from clicking at the top and using the scroll wheel on my mouse, but that doesn't explain the iPhone part, anyway, Like I said I'll keep an eye open for it again and then do my due diligence of research and get back with the results.

Hey Ian, I am a java (Google/Android) application developer and a um...how should I put it? "Reverse Engineer". You can PM me the real link he is sending out and I will try to help you and the site ;)

IP address, etc wouldn't hurt either if you already have it ;)

Nothing I like better than handing out a dose of their own medicine

I just saw it. It's not an "intrusive" which is why it's coming up, but it's not a redirect, just a square ad that slides down into the center - I'll see if I can figure out which one it is and I'll see if I can't disable it.

Careful. It's unlikely that the end result will warrant your efforts. It's also unlikely it's their only server and it could be an innocent person's computer being controlled remotely. And you'd be putting yourself at legal risk.

(PS: Java app developing doesn't exactly lend itself to reverse engineering)
