Ugh...this makes me sick to my stomach, the coverup was bad enough but this makes it 10 times worse

For whom it concerns, it this thread turns into a political melee, it will be moved where it belongs.

    #24 Jersey

Might as well move it now - especially as there's already a thread about it there - and now that it's football season we don't need OT threads to keep active anyway.

If you were the Army, how would you ever attract new employees (recruits) if they knew or thought that individuals with merit (Tillman) were likely to be shot by disaffected co-workers?

That's not a working environment I'd want to walk in to. Never mind boot camp, plus all the other people shooting at you.

Yup, we are all just waiting with baited breath to shoot the next famous guy that enlists.

Congratulations, you won the most ignorant post of the day.

    i don't think that's what he's literally saying at all... c'mon...

it IS about image and marketing, however... don't you think?... not saying it's fair, or right.... but perception often makes reality when it comes to career choice...

point is, there was incentive to perhaps cover this up, high up the chain...

I agree that there was incentive to cover it up. A great story, almost fairy tale like, turned into a giant tragedy.

People keep saying stuff, but that's not what they mean....I have a hard time with that. Maybe I wash harsh, but I just respond to what is written.

I think that all the people serving in harms way, are individuals with merit. Everyone is a volunteer, just like Tillman. I don't think anyone is likely to be shot, but they could be a victim of a tragedy. No one knows what happened but the guys that were there.

According to the new testimony he was shot from close range in the face while *****ing out some kid that wasn't doing his job.

I was not basing Tillman's merit on his being a famous ex-football player. I based it on all the quotes that say he was an outstanding combat soldier.

Obviously we don't know why Tillman died, but it seems to me this is the most sensible reason the Army tried to cover it up.
