I wonder if the Pats explored this option, DD Grassmaster:

That's a pretty funky system. They actually shoot 8" artificial fibers into the soil with a roller/injector and the natural grass roots eventually grow into and wrap around the fibers to lock them in. Dartmouth College has a field that was done with this process.

My thought on it has been if the natural grass thins out due to weather or wear you'd be left with a greenish tinge from the supplemental ones. They say that the Eagles used it and that sure seems to be the case. The field still looks fairly crappy but there's just enough green left so that it doesn't look bare and probably just enough "grass" left so that the players can still get some traction.

It's what I suggested on this board when I first heard talk of Fieldturf. Sure the new surface looks great, and we're 2-0 (somehow) playing on it. But my heart says that football should be played on outdoors on grass. I think the Pack should be congratulated for playing football as it's meant to be played.

One thing about Lambeau Field is that the stadium is much lower (there are only two sections instead of three) and so gets more sun. It was downright warm at the Pakcers/Pats game a few weeks ago, something we rarely get past October.
