I will not take this crap seriously unless Polian recuses himself from the committee so that they can truly discuss this.

I think the funniest part of this is that, Bill Polian is on the competition committee.

"So, Bill Polian, do you think anything should be done to change teams resting starters at the end of the season?"

    "No."

    "Ok then."

Seriously though, there's not much that can be done. The league doesn't have any business telling a team who they can & can't play. The best way to mend this, would be to schedule games against the crap teams in the league the last two weeks. If we were playing & got beat by the Rams & Bills instead of the Jets & Bills, this wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, with random changes in the league, that's near impossible to predict.

Well he did whine for a redefinition of passer interference, he should be able to shoot this one down.

I understand the other side of it but what the Colts do is just wrong. It was at it's worst two years ago when they got to pick who went to the playoffs and laid down like a slut for the Titans in choosing them over the Browns. Much like pornography, you know it when you see it and while their is no way to define exactly when this this is wrong in all cases, what the Colts do, seemingly repeatedly, is just flat out wrong.

There's nothing the NFL can or should do.

Is what the Colts did pathetic? Yes. Should they still have the right to do it? Yup.

I don't buy it. There's way too much chance of quid pro quo for laying down. So . . . what's a playoff spot worth these days anyway ???

I don't think this has a chance to change anything to begin with. More of a "We're looking into it" move.

    Hey, I'm with you.

It's just...what can the league realistically do?

Hefty fines and loss of draft picks is about the only thing they could do

i agree with those who argue that there's nothing that can be done, as sleazy as the Colts' behavior might be. it's a slippery slope. ultimately, telling a coach whom he should play in these circumstances threatens his right to decide what he believes is in the best interests of his team in every other circumstance.

Hence my calling it full of crap as long as Polian is involved.

The removal of the ability for a coach to sit his players, at his own determination would be ridiculous.

Next thing you know, there wouldn't be any disciplinary benchings and the league will be calling all the damn plays.

I think it sucks big time, but I doubt the NFL has anyway of changing anything to prevent it from happening in the future. It's bad on the team that misses the playoffs because of this, but, really, a team relying on tie breakers to get into the playoffs doesn't have much to complain about.

It would never work. Players with even the slightest injuries would be held out of portions of practice and listed as quenstionable. "Oh, I'm sorry! Our QB has a really painful hangnail. Should be cleared up in a week or so."

I am with you to a point, but it would be impossible to police and enforce equitably.

I hate to bring up spygate, but you look at what the Pats got hit with for a practice that, most reasonable people would agree, did very little to upset the competitive balance of a game or a season. And then the Colts do something that hands a game to a team fighting for a playoff spot...and what happens? It gets referred to Polian's committee to study.
    Seems fair.

Honestly, would this be news if the Colts didn't throw away a chance at a 16-0 season?

How many years have the Colts done this? I remember in 2007 when the Colts started Jim Sorgi the last game of the season which gave the Titans a win that knocked the Browns out of the playoffs. And every time the Colts do this, they are usually one and done anyway. I think if the Colts did this and was 13-1 going into the game instead of 14-0 the backlash would not be happening, but with the Colts not going for history, that I think is the outrage more than anything.
