I recently talked my fiancee into cancelling our big wedding in March to save money. She wants to get married in the summer, so I told her next summer we should do it, but she opted for this Saturday(of course women wanting to do this right away). So, we made an agreement, the deposit that we get back from the big wedding, I can use part of it to get a big screen tv to watch the Patriots game and PS4 for my man cave. I have a 600 dollar limit for the tv. I want at least a 50 inch tv, any suggestions?

Why do you need a mancave if you are just married??

Teach her to be a Pats Fan.. it works very well.

She is a Patriots fan. We bought a house with a mancave already built in with a built in bar. We already feel married. We have a house, a kid, and a dog.

    Congrats on the marriage!

For the TV you'd be best off going to a store and looking at the screens for yourself to judge the best, but at 50" the picture quality might start to suffer a little bit because at current resolutions, it will still be 1920x1080 so the pixels will be more stretched out at 50" compared to say a 46" screen.

With the intended use seemingly being video games and Sports too, look for a high refresh rate to avoid ghosting/motion blur too.

Another thing with modern Televisions is due to how thin they are, the sound tends to be lacking somewhat, not a major problem for some but if your budget can stretch to accommodate it, look for a sound bar too if you don't already have a sound system.

AVS forum to get the best value for your buck.

    SOme general tips:

Depending on the lighting of the room, plasma is better for dark lit rooms. For a brighter room, go with LCD/LED.

Video games look better in LCD compared to plasma.

Plasma burn-ins are really not a concern as it once was.

If you're building a man cave, also think about surround sound when you're setting it up.

50" for $600 or less? You may be able to find one but may suffer in quality.

Amazon.com is your best bet as they have good prices and you can see reviews for the TVs. A quick search and I found this...

    Amazon.com: Samsung PN51F4500 51-Inch 720p 600Hz Plasma HDTV: Televisions & Video

Although only 720p, it has 4 and a half star reviews overall with 21 reviews.

It's features seem to be lacking but you really can't expect to get top of the line features for a 50 incher for less than $600. A third party seller has the TV new for $497.99 +39.99 shipping.

I am sure there are more TVs that are 50" or over on Amazon that are in your price range so you might want to have a search.

Go browse through the Hot Deals forum section at Slickdeals.net. People post great deals they come across.

I find all my deals there such as my bedroom tv, a 55in Panasonic 1080p plasma for $450.

KDP, roughly speaking, what will be the viewing distance from the TV most of the time ? Also, what kind of source material will you be watching ? HD content from a cable/sat box ? Blu Rays ? Media streaming from a home media server ?

Reason I ask is that both of these questions factor in when you are deciding between going with a 720P or a 1080P set. Spending extra for 1080P might actually be a waste of money.
