Career over? As soon as I read those words I thought he may have gotten into a terrible car accident or something.

Do you really think his career is over for smoking dope? Is that an amateur mandated rule or something? Really, I don't know. I would have figure maybe a suspension, but career over?

Media is saying Phelps can't compete in 2012, and also he probably just lost all his sponsorships and endorsements from this.

I think the funniest part of this is going to be all the people who hate pot trying to figure out how a pothead just destroyed all comers at an athletic event open to the entire world.

I just don't get it. Why do people (edit: Americans) have such a big problem with marijuana? The article suggested it was acceptable, albeit a bad decision, to get drunk, but taking a hit just ruined his life?
I still don't get why Marijuana is a banned drug in sports. In many international countries/places it is legal, so that really isn't a good reason. It also isn't a performance enhancing drug, in fact, it is quite the opposite. I just can't see a good argument for the drug being banned (or illegal for that matter).

I tend to find that the people who are for Marijuana are far more reasonable/"morally" sound than those opposing. There is just something incredibly obnoxious about someone telling you what you "ought" to be doing in your own home. I am very simple, people should do what they please in their own home and if anyone objects, they can go [IMG] themselves.

Yeah, what are you talking about? How does weed end one's career? I didn't know weed gives someone a competitive advantage.

Wow what a piece of trash comedy esque article with hilariously bad slanted bias.

The top two stories on that site's homepage? This Phelps garbage and...

    TOP NEWS
Olympic star Phelps caught with dope pipe
Terror victim Martine's baby due on 7/7
Web girl bedded 200 men after surfing net
My fans are low-life, says top Corrie star
Chef breaks swearing record in show

Those are the top 5 headlines on that "news" site. It's a tabloid, a picture that will do nothing but produce some laughs otherwise the "career ending" would be major news by now. This is just nonsense.

That paper is a really bad source of "news". It's a rag I wouln't even wipe my arse with. It's also sister to another paper which is the scum of the earth, I won't even write the name of it and give it publicity.

Apparently getting caught with dope bans him from participating for 4 years, which means he can't go to the 2012 olympics

if they ban a 23 year old kid for smoking pot at a party over 3 years from the next Olympics, then that is a travesty of epic proportions. Gotta love all the self righteous people laying judgment on a 23 year old for doing what every other 23 year old does simply because he's an incredible athlete.

    link?

I too think it's being blown out of proportion, but still, Phelps is an idiot because he knew what would happen before he did it.

I just get sick of this "Should be a role model" crap. I would love to see a dominant athlete grab his balls and say "suck it, suckers." Who says you have to be a damned saint just because you are the best? I just get sick of seeing athletes have to "apologize" for "mistakes" like partying and smoking. He just won more gold medals than anyone in the history of the Olympics, he can do what ever the hell he wants.

Now don't get on me for saying that, because I do think you need to work hard and get along with everyone on a team, but we aren't talking about team sports. There is no reason why an individual should have to act a certain way just because they are better (yes, i said better) than everyone else.

I seriously want to see an athlete refuse to apologize (for anything). Even if they were to have made a mistake (in their opinion, not others), why do they have to apologize to anyone? The only people they might want to really apologize to would be their endorsers, no one else is deserving. I'm just sick of seeing the amount of ass-kissing that goes around in pro sports.
