Ha ha, no, but when I saw it I was surprised. I thought maybe he'd go on to thrive in Chicago, but I guess I was wrong. It's too bad. Obviously he's got the athletic ability, so it's a shame to see him not making the most of it.

Interesting line at the end of the PFT story...

The Bears have used five different starting safety combinations in six games. It’s been a revolving door position in Chicago for years.

At some point, you wonder if it’s really the players who are at fault here.

There's no continuity there. How much that's hurting that team's safety play is something we can only guess at, but it certainly can't be helping.

Also, it could get ugly in Chicago if that team doesn't start winning. They're apparently throwing the O-line and safeties under the bus, and who knows what's next. It could come down to Smith and/or Angelo getting the axe at the end of the season.

Where are all the folks who long and pine for Meriweather with their 20-20 hindsight????

He will be out of the league by next year, and just a memory.

I'm right here. Never claimed Meriweather was great, but are you denying that he's a whole lot better than Josh Barrett?

How did this numbnut make so many probowls?! LOL. Vaya con dios.

At the beginning of the year I thought the bears would be better than they have been. Didn't think they'd have as many problems as some others did. Seems I was wrong haha.

And that Oline deserves to be thrown way under the bus, I kind of feel bad for cutler he takes such a beating out there. You are right, if things keep going poorly then things could get very ugly indeed.

Interesting stuff out of the Chicago Tribune:

I think it is because he does not act white and has long hair....:bricks:
He has to act like Chalky White.

apples to oranges......Barrett is a tight safety,BM a free safety.

How was this guy ever a pro bowler

Right, because NFL fans absolutely hate black people

It was jest at a poster here who made this ridiculous assertion that we all did not like BM because of the way he talked, dressed, made his hair. Basically he called most of us on this board racists.

Adding the said post here for reference. I can never forget this post.

You know, I've watched this thread for a while, and the only conclusion I can reach is that the anti-Meriweather sentiment is racial and cultural in nature.

It was the same with Maroney.

There's a certain contingent on this board that accepts black players as long as they "act white." Short hair, doing what massah Bill says, and working the NFL fields are all signs that a black player is "acting white."

But when a player has dreads, or he otherwise tries to be an individual, he's off the plantation. He's "acting black." The usual suspects on this board don their white hoods, and while maintaining the thinnest veneer of non-racialism, they attack the player mercilessly.

I think some of you anti-Meriweather bigots need to take a look in the mirror at the rot in your soul, and really ask yourself if you like what you see.

And that's real talk.

After that horrible excuse of a tackle when Megatron caught the ball... I knew this was coming.

I'm sorry, but I put the number of safeties in the league who make that play (have the speed to get over there and the strength to bring him down) at around six.

Doesn't mean he's good but that other guy has a habit of making players look bad.

Meriweather has always done things his way. Coach instructions are ignored or not understood. From the Pro Bowl to the toilet bowl. Impending free agency doesn't look good at this moment for Big Bang Clock.

Seriously, how awesome is the name Major Wright? I wish my parents named me Major.

Screw that. If I were part of the Wright family, I'd want to be named "Mister"

this is a good move. Their safety play was a mess in the DET game.

That 2007 draft (I mean the players BB drafted, not Welker or Moss) was the worst from any team that I've ever seen.
