    22 dead ?

Sometimes it repulses me to be part of the human race.

My thought, whenever I hear of these wackos that shoot folks and then themselves is: Shoot yourself first!!!

I'm shocked at the numbers on this and the time it took. How did this guy manage to shoot so many people without Campus police and local police responding and taking him out?

Sounds like at least 50 people. Curious to see how the whole thing played out.

Logged on and saw the headlines. My first thought was Kent State, I think the last time something this horrific happened on our campuses. I guess Univ. of Texas was also similiar. Just horrible. My prayers go out to all the families.

I'm hearing 28 killed (including the gunman) and 22 injured on the local news in Northern Virginia.

Many of the families I know have kids at VA TECH. I'm praying they haven't been
    harmed.

Last I heard it was up to as high as 30 dead, 28 injured, 4 in critical condition. The weapon of choice sounded like a M4 or M16, with a steady methodical shooting, sounded like he knew what he was doing... Definitely a rifle of some kind... A freakin shame, and this is the same school that Michael Vick, Chris Henry and the likes came from... I feel deeply sorry for the families, they are in my prayers.

Are assault rifles available to the public (other than through the black market)? If so, why?

Only player I can think of is SS Aaron Rouse, although he hasn't worked out for us according to the workout thread in the draft forum.

There are civilian versions of both the M4 and M16 that you can buy at any gun shop, so yes they are available to the public. Along the same lines, each mag holds 30 rounds of 5.56, so if the counts are correct on dead and injured, he went through at least 2 mags.

I thought I heard earlier that the gunman used two 9mm's.

I hadn't heard that but interesting... It is more ideal for "close combat" which is what a dorm is, but dang it didn't sound like a 9mm...
