That's just totally classless by the Bills.

I cannot recall any player hitting the wall as quickly as Merriman did. Beast to bust in less than a year. Like the OP said, he has not jack since he was busted for steroids.

Why? They paid him 1 million for showing up, then he doesn't perform. The NFL has charities it gives to, but players who can't perform anymore isn't one of them.

However... I do agree the Bills are classless otherwise :D lol

Here is a perfect example of why college athletes risk taking PEDs, without them it appears that Mr Merriman would have been bagging groceries much sooner. He took some drugs and made millions of dollars then he was caught and it all came crashing down, but he gets to keep the money.....:bricks:

looks like we have a power cut.

Would piss me off greatly if Bill were to kick the tyres here.

    He's done.

The Merriman house has been dark for a couple of years.

Believe he pocketed $5M of a 2 year $10.5M deal... He should be the poster boy for the anti doping advocates. I know some fans feel it's no big deal and it doesn't matter if the playing field isn't level or whether cheaters push others to keep pace. Same folks will probably support the players when they all start filing steriod damage suits blaming the league for not doing enough to warn or stop them from abusing themselves for financial gain.

Remember when Parcells was blasted by a lot of people for taking DeMarcus Ware over Merriman?

Look I don't like the guy but the steroids were not the reason he declined it's revisionist history. He got caught in 2006 and still had 17 sacks in 12 games then had 12.5 in 15 games in 2007 the reason he fell off was the knee injury not getting off steriods but people will keep saying it's the steroids even though that is not true.

That was more Thomlinson than Merriman. After the 2007 AFCCG Merriman stayed on the field and congratulated Patriot players and coaches so for me with him the 2006 stuff is forgotten. Thomlinson is the one who's never let it go and has proven to be anything but classy.

    Disable Jersey

He's a week 2 pickup (so the team won't have to pay full season salary, although vet minimum isn't that big a cap hit) for a desperate injury depleted defense. That said, he's done. Good points about the consequences of roid abuse people.

I guess it's a "huge year" for Merriman since he's deciding what to do with himself as a (possibly soon to be) former NFL player.

Shame the XFL is not around. Surely he could have been picked up by one of those teams.

That's right. Merriman was guilty only of his obnoxious sack dance. It was Tomlinson who was the classless douche who could dish it out, but couldn't take it.

See, I didn't know this. I was all set to brand him as an example of better production through chemistry, like so many here, but 30 sacks in the 2 years AFTER he was caught has to make one think.

Just another example of how all of can get caught up in PERCEPTIONS, rather than reality

The nice thing is that everytime some DE or OLB would get cut or be on the trading block everyone would wonder if he were a possible fit for the Pats. No longer. I don't really care how guys Merriman, Quentin Groves, Derrick Harvey and the likes are doing.

He blew his Knee out and still tried to play on it and then lost all his explosion when he came back

And he played on that anyway that had way more to do with his suckatude than getting off roids considering he went from All-Pro even off roids to JAG after injury like so many others who have blown out there knees but that doesn't jive with people's personal opinion of him so they say it was the getting off the roids.

    No Jersey Selected

    Yes, but.......

How much could the steroids have led to the injuries? Steroids are a known cause of bone-softening and tissue degeneration over time. It's no coincidence (IMHO) that he's had these injuries and possibly other symptoms since getting off the juice.

How many other player's careers might have been cut short because of the long-term damage from steroids? We'll likely never know but it's certainly food for thought. That short-term gain is playing with fire, and the Devil will always collect on his contracts. With interest.

Well, that is under the assumption that he would experience an immediate decline right after going off steroids. You quit steroids and you don't lose everything you gained overnight. It can take a long while.

Also, 7.5 of his 12.5 sacks in 2007 came against the Raiders and Chiefs (the combinations of Daunte Culpepper, JaMarcus Russell, and Damon Huard). Did he get 12.5 sacks because he wasn't declining or because he faced two of the worst offenses in the league. In 2006, he had three sackless games. In 2007, he had seven sackless games.

Lastly, Merriman's knee injuries could be a product of the roids. Many different types of steriods build up muscle, but weakens the ligaments that attach them. Many steriod abusers suffer torn ligament injuries because of it.

I agree with all that but he turned into a complete JAG after the injury

    53 tackles 5 sacks in 23 games

Wrecks Cryin will snap him up, to place him alongside Aaron Maybin, and Quinton Couples ,and then bring Gholston back from wherever he is, to form the most AWSUM Defensive line in football.:eek:

My guess is without the injuries, he would have become an average to above average pass rusher after being elite his first few years.
