Jeff Saturday Calls Out Coach Caldwell While Jim Irsay Apologies To Fans - Stampede Blue

Last night was the most embarrassing loss in Indianapolis Colts history. Maybe one could argue the 41-0 loss in the playoffs to the Jets in 2003 was worse because it was a post-season game, but giving up 62 points in a nationally televised game probably takes the turd cake.

Thus, it should come as no surprise that Jim Irsay immediately took to Twitter after the debacle and apologized to fans.

Not enough bad things can happen to this franchise for my liking. Enjoy the read...

sounds like irsay is out of touch with reality. if i were a colts fan that apology wouldn't even come close to satisfying me. he's like "we're working on fixing this, but thank you colts nation for your money."

Let me re-state what he was telling Colt Nation:

"Don't worry Colt fans, this is part of our master plan to get Andrew Luck. We are going to IR alot of starters, allow field goals to be intentionally blocked, put the ball on the carpet when we have to in tight ball games and play as many young players as we possibly can in order to 'Tank Football Games' in our ultimate quest to get Andrew Luck."

"Better Days are ahead" It's our "Tank for Luck plan", "Please be patient"

Does anyone honestly think this team would be that much different with a 36 year old Manning playing? Their roster is terrible top to bottom. I'm sure they wouldn't be winless, but damn. They're bad.

    Saturday said they got outcoached.

Considering how that game went, I'd say he was being very polite.

And they'd be just as bad with Luck starting. Their best shot is Manning playing again and picking up a windfall of picks for the #1 selection and rebuilding their team and their staff and their FO over his last couple of seasons (because it's not just the roster that is terrible top to bottom) and mining the later rounds for potential replacement or at least transitional QB talent and actually, you know, developing it.

I honestly hope that's exactly what they're doing. Once you teach a team to tank, you don't just flip a switch and suddenly they're playing tough once they get a QB. It's the same reason I believe they had trouble in the playoffs for many years. When you roll over in your last game or two to "rest starters", it's hard enough to get that intensity back to regular season level, let alone playoff level.

Let them tank, draft Luck, and then suck for years because the rest of the team is still garbage... garbage that now has the mentality that it's ok to lose.

He also said they got outplayed. He was just spouting the generic excuses. The clown who runs Stampede Blue is just looking for signs of Caldwell's total demise and he wants to think Saturday just torpedoed him. And he's mining Irsay's tweets for hints the Polian's are history since he personally holds them responsible...

I read an article about Irsay recently and I have to say while he is crazy it's more crazy like a fox. He's just using twitter lately to manufacture/manage interest level in the franchize at a time when fans and media would otherwise be ignoring the whole debaucle. At least they still have drama unfolding - kind of like the Red Sox... Jim is workin' it.

    62-7 ----- WTF?????

So I assume that the big controversy this week in the NFL will be how Coach Peyton and Brees ran up the score on a hapless Colts team.

Cue the endless stream of articles on how classless the Saint's organization is in 3..... 2..... 1

Oh wait, that only happens if it's the Patriots, Belichick and Brady involved

After an 0-14 start, the unbearable pressure of being winless will overcome the Colts. Then they will actually try hard to win.

If you are rebuilding a once fabled franchise, this is what I would do..

Along with hiring a better coach..

The media will point out the greatness of Manning because of this debacle. It will ignore the decimation of a once great team because of continual poor drafts, cap mismanagement, and poor coaching.

They wouldn't be winless if Manning were playing, but they wouldn't be on anyone's playoff radar either. There is an interesting comparison between the 2009 Pats and 2010 Colts. Both were 10 win teams who really weren't ready for a deep run in the playoffs. It really shows how important good coaching and management is. Because the Pats look like they will continue to be major winners for the next couple of years, while the Colts are going to need a 2-3 year overhaul just to get back into the playoff picture, which will just about waste the rest of Manning's career on mediocre teams.

    Karma's a *****!

This team is a complete mess, and I'm not even sure a healthy Manning could right this ship.

Let them Suck for Luck - which it is rather clear that they are, I've never seen a team give up the way this Colts team has from week 1. If the Colts fans think that Luck is going to step in and replicate Manning's play, they are probably in for a rude awakening. Manning is a once-in-a-generation player, and just like Patsfans with Brady, we should not count on ever witnessing such greatness again.

What a contrast it is to see the Patriots dealing with losing Brady for a year vs. the Colts. Belichick allows no distractions - coaches up an iffy defense, turns Matt Cassel into a commodity, and leads the team to a respectable season. Granted, the schedule was brutally easy and I constantly remember the painful fact that Brady-Moss-Welker would've probably gone 16-0 with that schedule, but still. It is a testament to Belichick that he handles adversity so well.

But at the same time as the media lauds how important Manning is/was to the Colts, they will somehow neglect that just a month ago the Colts only lost by a field goal to the Steelers.

That was when they were putting in at least a 50% effort. Now it's all in for Andrew Luck.

No question about it. Putting starters on IR and blatantly throwing football games to get Mr. Luck as a fan is frustrating to watch. The integrity of every football game they play this year is in total question and it was done purposely by Irsay and Polian, and frankly, it's not right and I mean this when I say it, I think what they're doing should serioulsy be looked into by Goodell, it's wrong, flat out wrong.

This team is not an 0-16 team without Manning, no damn way. Yet they made a decision at the beginning of the year to go down this "tank for Luck" path when they knew PM wasn't coming back this season.

I just talked to guy I work with out in Indy and he told me that same thing, they are throwing football games to get Luck.
