Okay so this will be the first year I file my own taxes - and I couldn't be more confused. Basically, I have no clue where to start.

I worked for four companies the last year - claimed 1 on my w2's (I think) - and I would like to get my economic stimulus check :p

Any tips, hints, suggests, or definitions would be appreciated :)

    Thanks

I use TT but this one is free :

    http://www.taxact.com/

There's versions that have charges but for flea's purposes the all free one should be fine.

Used Tax Act for a couple of neighbourhood kids, works outstanding and the total cost was 13.95 for a state and federal e-file... price is right, easy to use.

I made roughly 12,700 last year - and im getting back 297 ... does that sound right? Also, I qualify for the stimulus package for 300$ - so I should be getting back 597. Did I make out or should I file somewhere else (I have not finalized threw quickbooks) :)

No way to know without knowing how much was withheld.

taxact is also free if you don't buy extras like tax help, importing data, etc. Much better than doing that crap, even simple crap, by hand.

How much did you pay in taxes? At 12,700 I think you're over the no tax threshold. I did my buds taxes a couple of years ago, and he was in your ball park, and made a tad too much. Not sure if the figure has changed at all.

A former coworker used to wax poetic that paying taxes is unconstitutional. He and his father had never paid taxes. This used to drive the ladies in payroll crazy! He sat me down and explained it for 2 hours once....

after hearing his explanation...I used Turbo Tax to file mine.

Not sure...he moved away aa few yeras ago....but here is the funny thing.

His house got broken into one day...his computer, music equipment, and entertainment system (TV, strereo...all nice stuff) was taken form him. I'd say $20,000-$40,000 worth of things.

I laughed in his face and told him he better not call the cops, because he doen't pay them. Thus should be unable to take advantage of their service.

    karma is a b!tch.

$297 should buy about 2 screws & nuts and perhaps 1 hammer.
