Firstly and most important. this is good news for the family of the deceased. they may now get justice.

Secondly, it can't be bad news for recouping that Hernandez dead cap space.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

He may beat this charge. He may beat the Odin Lloyd charge. He may beat the illegal weapons charge. But there's no way in HELL he beats all of them. He's going away for something.

This is, IMO, the hardest for him to beat. IIRC, they took weapons that he was not legally allowed to possess from a safe in his house.

On the flipside, all things considered, if that's all they end up nabbing him for it's a loss for the prosecution. I feel like that is their safety net, something they can use to get him off the streets for a short time at least if everything else falls through.

It really looks like a case of witness elimination, Lloyd knew and maybe was blackmailing Aaron?

The curious is that as far as I know that crime in 2012 was never related to Hernandez before this Lloyd crime. Police started to link things.

It curious, what if Ahern hadn't killed Lloyd, would the authorities advanced in that previous case investigation and would Ahern end up arrested anyway?

As has been discussed in the past:
This indictment is very significant in terms of the Hernandez contract extension with the Patriots.

Hernandez has now been indicted for a murder committed before he signed his major extension and received a large signing bonus.
A clause in the contract states that there is no reason Hernandez is aware of that would be prevent him from completing the contract.
Committing a murder and risking extensive incarceration would be a fact Hernandez was aware of that could prevent him from completing the contract.

Indictment is not conviction. But this is significantly different, in terms of his contract, from committing crimes after signing the contract. This opens the door to negating the contract.

If he gets convicted on both at the state level he may be looking at federal capital murder charges on the Lloyd murder for killing a witness. If so, he may be looking at the death penalty

The only way to describe this whole thing is, incredible. How does someone so vicious get so far in the sports world and fool people for so long. This thug probably has done things that should have put him in prison years ago. He will never spend a day out of prison ever again, and rightfully so.

I can't believe I defended this guy when the Odin Lloyd murder hit the public eye. I thought he was just a victim of hanging with the wrong people. Apparently, the wrong people were victims of hanging with Hernandez.

Not that that is a primary concern at this point, I think an indictment is enough to overturn the contract. Contract law is not innocent until proven guilty.

We could sure use that 7.5 million cap relief for the 2015 offseason.

2015 will be fine,

we could have used it at the start of THIS offseason, and brought in jared allen.

It is not a conviction, but after indictment by a grand jury the likelihood of a guilty plea or finding increases exponentially.. in the Federal system there is something like a 93% conviction rate post grand jury, have no idea what it is in Mass., but suspect it is high.

Yeah, Pats gets money back!!!
