    I grew up in Minnesota.

There is plenty of bad weather both here and there. Sure they might get more snowfall on average per year but 30 inches in 2 days would be a huge storm back there too even if it happens slightly more frequently. But they also don't have to contend with the coastline.

    Edit:

Gah! Merged thread and now I look like a double posting hog!

    Re: Snowmageddon!!!!

I don't recall the snow fall being that much it was just more the timing and speed of the storm. I remember somewhere around a foot maybe a little more but it came in quick and didnt stop until like noon (luckily it was a four oclock game if I remember correct). We were 3 miles away and took the drive in carefully and the only problem we had was in the parking lot when My father decided to park in a snow bank and got us stuck and we had to shovel out before we went in. But the game was well worth it one of those games you never forget.

I grew up in northeast Iowa. The biggest difference between our roots and here is that we always got sustained wind and long stretches of subsequent cold with the storms, whereas here the storm events are relatively brief and not as severe. For example, it looks like we'll get pounded for a day, but it's going to be sunny Sunday and Monday-Tuesday it'll be in the 40s. Digging out from this one should be pretty quick.

I do remember the days where it was "too cold to snow". The huge negative wind chill (like -30 sometimes during the day!) I'd walk home in after school (driveway was a quarter mile long!)

Still, this storm will be nothing to write off if we really get 30 inches and 45 mph winds. I currently live in a bit of a valley and those winds really do hit me hard! My mother called me up very concerned because she had heard 70 mph winds in some places. If that happens, it will push this Minnesota native into some definite concern.

Good luck to you; I'm crossing my fingers against a power outage. At least we don't get that severe cold here like back in the Midwest. I remember long stretches when it didn't get above 0-degrees F. ... before the windchill was factored in.

Yeah, I remember that too. Good luck to you as well. Hopefully the winds won't be too bad so the power lines stay up.

I just had this one rubbed in: Mom called from Palm Springs, CA and complained because it was only 57 F. Cry me a river, mom! :singing:

...my storms were better than your storms!!!!....meanwhile, over Jet Life stadium, forecasters call for brown haze and sprinkles of sewerage interspersed with golf ball sized pieces of half eaten bratwursts and mustard showers.....

The only place in the world where they get brown snow. When the temperature climbs into the 30s it changes to diarrhea. :drum:

Now we're naming snowstorms? No way! Naming hurricanes is one thing, but I refuse to call a snowstorm by a name. It just...doesn't make sense.

"Blizzard of '13" works just fine for me. ;)

It's the Weather Channel. They took it upon themselves to name storms. The NWS and others think they're idiots.

Winter storm Nemo should have been named winter storm Sanchez. That way another country would have intercepted it.

Good thing you have generators. Stay safe and warm! It sounds like this thing is just starting.

Ian, I hear Florida is nice this time of year. How's that potential move looking now? :D
